DC Drops $3.99 Price Back Down to $2.99!

DC has listened to fans' complaints about the $3.99 price point and are dropping it back down to $2.99 for 20 pages of story. And they're eliminating the co-feature aspect of these books. Kudos DC for a step in the right direction....

Now give me some "done-in-ones" and less of the ongoing arc after arc

I hate the "free preview" pages on the last few pages. I feel like I'm paying for those pages, too.

We stopped subscribing to as many books, due to the cost. Sounds like our local comic store guy's saying, "Vote with your dollar" worked.

Boy, ain't it the truth! And I agree about the "done in ones". I'd be much more apt to pick up an issue of something else once in awhile if I didn't feel that I had to buy all the back issues to catch up.

I don't think ANY of those previews has enticed me to buy the actual comic they're promoting.....

              When's this start ?
... BTW , The only previews book I have thus far ever bought was Powergirl..., and dropped the book too, after the Ultra Humanite arc.

The only back up story that I thought was even worth a Damn was the Ravager story in the back of Teen Titans.

Yeah, if the back up stories are the reason for the $3.99 price Tag...then good riddance! I don't read them anyway.

On another note: I switch Comic Shops to New Berry Comics, because they have 20% off your Comics! It's a great deal...I love watching them ring up at the Cash Register($3.99=$3.19 ...$2.99=$2.39).

I'm the same way, I've seen a couple of cool covers that I've wanted to get the comic and then I think, well, that will really need to be $24 worth of story rather than the one comic in my hand.
                    It's all good!

I didn't buy PG due to the preview; I had been waiting for a PG series for years.
Unfortunately once I heard about the change in creators I bailed. I thought Amanda Connor was perfect on that book.

A 25% drop on a whim goes to show you how much they were overcharging to begin with. That is massive.

Marvel has followed with their price drop as well.

I can't help but think this is in anticipation of the big digital comics push. We'll see how this plays out in the next couple of years. Particularly when online releases synch up with print, which is already being tested with some titles.

As digital takes hold, inside of ten years I'm thinking that print comics will be a boutique luxary item for the collectors market only. We're talking limited covers, variant covers, enhanced covers up the wazoo to justify lower print runs.

There was an interesting editorial over at Bleeding Cool last week about the implications of digital and the standards of the art form... particularly Splash Pages. Atlhough no one other than perhaps Bryan Hitch in Ultimates and Frank Cho in the recent New Ultimates fold out issue has really played with Scott McCloud's concept of a continuously scrolling panel.

I'm also thinking that "page" rates will also need to be renegotiated for the new digital comics revolution. The new standard might have to become "panel rates".

Haven't seen the price drop on the Marvel books I get yet but it's definitely nice on the DC side. Once the "Brightest Day" and "Generation Lost" mini have run their course it means I'll have room for new titles in the budget.
