Blank pages are way better than wordy art.

A guy at my work asked me what a good Batman book to get was. I told him either Killing Joke or Dark Knight Returns. He bought the later. Then proceeded to only read about 10 pages. As it turns out he's "not a big reader" lol

He's also about 21 years old.

I was 15 when I got DKR and I couldn't put it down. This guy can't read 10 pages.

Maybe they're all better off reading Tiny Titans?

What I find odd is that I'm not sure Hal Foster or Alex Raymond could get work in comics today. I hate to name names and diss current guys, because who knows why people like what they like? Still, it's boggles my mind the guys that regularly make Wizard Magazine's Top Ten list. Every now and then you'll get a guy like Jay Anacleto that comes along, but he's usually overshadowed by someone like Tim Sale. There's an immense gap in both vision and technique there. It's a lot like comparing King Crimson to Warrant (or some things equally dissimilar I'm too uncreative to suggest [crème brûlée vs a Poptart?]). I don't think I'm a snob about it, but I don't understand current tastes.

If they think that's wordy, hand them Roy Thomas' All-Star Squadron. I mean, I love it, but man, even for the times it was wordy.

I'll bet he enjoys video games though...

I heard recently that the average high-school graduate of 1948 had a working vocabulary of about 65,000 words.

Now, it's down to about 20,000.

What a decline in just two generations! Frightening.

His brain would explode if he had to read the Batman Odyssey by Neal Adams. What's wrong with the younger generation??!!??

I think about that a lot. Sometimes when I look at Raymond art it almost makes me want to cry, and then I think, if there are people out there who can draw like this, would they even want to work in comics nowadays?

i did not know that the newer generations vocabulary has been so drastically reduced, now, I know why when I hear them talking like the mumbles guy on fat albert, to me a lot of the newer gererations sound like that when talking. by the way i am not that old I am in my 40's. On a side note I loved All star squadron it had great stories as well as art.

^Just to clarify, I love All-Star Squardron too, heck, just look at my screen name.

But I do think Roy Thomas tends to be overly verbose.

Now most kids nowadays would have no clue what verbose meant.
