After 39 years of reading comics, I've quit.

I just got through my pile of "haven't read these yet" comics. Due to a busy schedule, I've been behind my comics reading by about a year, I guess.

And yes, they've finally p***ed me off enough to call it quits.
    They've killed Kurt Wagner.
My favorite character. The one I've identified with from day one, and no, I'm not blue.
I don't care if they resurrect him in five years. Enough is enough.
If killing off a great character is the only way to keep people interested, then they can go jump off a cliff themselves. I'd pay $3 to see that!

Is there an X-Man they haven't killed and resurrected?

To me, Kurt was the soul of the group, the one who didn't kill, the loner and yet the closest friend to guys like Logan.

Sorry for ranting about a fictional character, but Nightcrawler meant something to me. He deserved a better end than this.

Around here curiosity may just "kill" me... ha.

But, seriously, what happened with Kurt (NC)?
Did they kill him off in an offending way?

Reason why I ask... I'm not at all concerned about anyone
(including myself) being in love w/a "fictional" character...
....however, the thing that always gets "me" about fan-reactions
to character deaths like this, is that everybody (mortal) "does" die, right?

Well, isn't it actually a boon to the character's story that he has a "comic documented" death? That is, unless, of course, it's a scenario where one
feels the character was killed off in a poor way.

It if funny that this topic should arise. I seen two big collections today at two different thrift stores. Apparently a couple of other long time readers was bowing out of the game today as well. I am so glad that I never got wrapped up in them to begin with.

Best of luck with your new endeavors.

I'm with ya. I'm so sick of them killing off great Characters like Kurt. And yes, we know they'll bring him back. I think the main reason that they kill the most popular ones...is that it will have more emotional impact(no one would care if they killed off a minor Character).
It's a stupid gimmick that "the powers that be" never seem to tire of...but we sure do! Why not just write good quality stories instead?

          The only ones I collect now are;
          Jonah hex
          Conan
          Star Trek(original of course)
          Dark tower series

They have killed off or revamped everybody else and truth be told I am sick to death of it.So I hear your lament and wish you luck!!!

            Hmmmm....

I always find statements like this kinda sad. If you're tired of superheroes you could try something different. REALLY diferent; not just indie supers. Hell; try something without fight scenes even. Just 'cos you've outgrown the X-Men doesn't mean there isn't something else you might like.

I understand the frustration, but if I don't like the direction of a particular book, I just drop it. I will say as "Marvel" guy, it's sad that I buy only a handful of Marvel titles each month and mostly buy DC now. But again as I've brought up in other threads there's always back issues. There are some really insane deals to be had now. You can get stuff
from "the good 'ol days" so to speak largely cheaper than new books now.

                I feel your frustration, Rik.
I almost quit when they killed off Kara Zor-El in the original Crisis.
I've almost quit a couple times since then but more for economic reasons than anything else.
Right now I'm about as close to quitting new comics as I have ever been but I'm clinging in there just a hair. Not sure exactly what it would take to push me completely over the edge but any more price increases would certainly be a big consideration.
I think the only character that will never be brought back to life is Kara Zor-El pre-1986...then again...who really knows? They may have some crappy new Crisis in mind to bring her back only to obliterate her again.

I sort of quit when Norman Osborn came back. And him hooking up with Gwen Stacy? Total crap!!

The only thing I read regularly is "Walking Dead" which is full of dead people that come back too!

I tried quitting comics several times but whenever I buy them when I see them. Lucky for me that this town does not have any place that sells them. Road trips to the nearest comic store, which is an hour's drive away, always ends up with me spending at least a hundred dollars in comic books. They are not always newly released comics either. I also buy mostly what I like.

I cannot believe they killed Kurt.

I quite cold turkey a few years back. It wasn't one event, but the general direction most of my favorite books had taken. Funny thing, I haven't missed THEM. I miss my old comics, which aren't really published any more. Oh, the titles are the same, but the contents are radically different.

And I'm sure those titles have their fans. The characters evolve and change over time, but it seems super hero books have taken a real nasty turn in the last 10 to 15 years, and the over-hyped event of the second mentality just leaves me cold.

I spend my comic dollars on collections of older comics. I don't spend nearly as much, and am very satisfied.

I bolted awhile ago, pre-Civl War, from both of the Big Two for the most part. The directions both of them were going with their universes weren't appealing to me, and the stories just weren't as much fun as they used to be. Plus, it became very apparent to me I was far from their target audience at that point, so I left. The only book I get from either of them regularly is Tiny Titans, because it's FUN and I have mad love and respect for everyone involved with that book. Aw yeah, Art!

I'm actually more into Dark Horse's Creepy, Eerie, and Conan reprints and collections, as I missed those during their first go-round when I was a kid. I'll also read Dynamite Comics' Red Sonja collections as well.

And there's always all those long boxes I have filled with comics I can always revisit.

ETA: Earth 2 Chris' take echoes mine. Well done, sir!

No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."
