I finally picked up this hardback. I always enjoy reading about the creative process, but what really struck me was the most ignored aspect of Adam Hughes' covers, which is his colouring and how obsessive he really is about colour theory.
I just am simply stunned that some of his best covers are in fact drawn in MARKER! It's just mind-blowing how much control he has with what is essentially a fat felt tip. I watched him draw "sketches" using markers at San Diego last year and still couldn't believe what I was seeing.
I am a huge fan and spent the day with him many moons ago. I was working cash at an appearance in a tiny store, he was right next to me. He drew a sketch of my character meeting Captain Marvel, wonderful guy.

I love Hughes' stuff...He's come a long way since his Maze Agency and Justice League days...Stellar work and a GREAT cover artist! Besides Brian Bolland I think he's the premiere guy to go to for super cover runs.

Not all marker, the line work is done with Pitt pens which have india ink.He uses copic markers to make the grey tones then colors it on the computer
I met Adam the first time I attended the Pittsburgh Comicon, in the hotel bar. One of my prized possessions is the Wonder Woman he drew on a napkin for me.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?
