    Legion Fans Unite!

Looks like it's shaping up to be a good year to be a Legion of Super-Heroes fan. 2008 is the 50th anniversary of the Legion's 1st appearance waaay back in Adventure Comics #247 (Apr. '58) and it looks like DC is biulding up to a few cool events.

First up Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are teaming up on Action Comics #858 (Oct. 31) for the beginning of the "Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes" story arc, picking up from the LSH's appearance in the JLA/JSA cross-over this year.

Over at the Legion's own book, Supergirl heads back to the 21st Century and the book is retitled "Legion of Super-Heroes" with #37 just in time to see the intro of "new/old" writer Jim Shooter! I'm curious how Shooter will handle these modern versions of concepts he created.

And these 2 Legions are NOT the same versions of each other! Apparently there's an upcoming storyline that's been referenced entitled "The Legion of Three Worlds". I'm hoping it's the Geoff Johns version (which seems to be a direct descendant of the ORIGINAL LSH), the new Shooter version (which is a continuation of the Waid/Kitson reboot) as well as the version that was spun out of Zero Hour's reboot. This way everyone should be happy that "their" favorite version of the LSH exists somewhere/sometime in the DC Multiverse.

As a looong time Legion fan I'm hoping DC pulls out all of the stops and gives us a lot of cool projects (be nice to see Levitz and Giffen tackle a special or something too)...for most of my comic book reading life the LSH was always on the back burner of public awareness and I think it's cool to see them finally getting their due in the spotlight.

I mean a Saturday morning cartoon?! Happy Meal toys?! I never would've thunk it when I was 1st introduced to them back in 5th grade!

    LONG LIVE THE LEGION!

Definitely seconded on all of the above. I was ready to drop the current Legion book until it was announced that Shooter's coming on board. I'm also excited about seeing what's coming in the Action Comics arc.

I'd love to see an anniversary issue like the 30th, where we see different creative teams telling stories from their era of the Legion. I just wish that Curt Swan, Kurt Schaffenberger, and Dave Cockrum could have been here to see the anniversary.

I'm most curious to see which incarnation of the three Legions ends up being the officially designated "New Earth" version. I would imagine that the other might be designated in it's own parallel Earth, or perhaps the "Earth 2" Legion?

It would now appear that the "original" Legion Geoff Johns and Brad Metzger are writing have splintered off from Giffen and co's 5 Years Later Post Crisis Legion?

Just curious if the Legion of Superheroes TV show is worth checking out? I'm a fan of the Teen Titans cartoon, is LoSH as good as that one?

As far as the Johns Legion splitting from the 5YL Legion - definitely. In the JLA/JSA crossover, we saw Princess Projectra as Sensor Girl side by side with Karate Kid. In traditional continuity, Projectra didn't assume the Sensor Girl ID until some time after the Kid was dead. Also, Una (currently in Countdown) did lose her second body, but that was, again, some time after the Kid's death, and she was wearing a different costume at the time. Of course, the Giffen-era Legion did resurrect her second body, but that's when it starts getting confusing.

I'm sure there are other timeline discrepancies as well, but I don't have the books here in front of me to check.

I am not a fan of Teen Titans but Love LOSH. I think it's the difference in style between Glenn Murakami (TT) & James Tucker(LOSH). while both are former Timm verse guys they have different takes tucker is more sedate in story arc Murakami is more frenetic. I think the LOSH is closer in writing style to SAS or JLU.
