This IS my Grandad's Superman !

From reading the DC Golden Reprints to the modern graphic novels I have to say Superman isnt what he used to be.

Why is it guys who make change are villians in the comics and good guys only maintain the satus quo?
Anybody ever ready the golden age story where Superman trashes a ghetto to make room for projects? or a cab fleet to make new safer cars?

Since when did Superman have to be a wimp?

I agree. The Superman Chronicles are a great way to see Superman as he should be, before the silly stories of the fifties and sixties kinda whitewashed him. didnt say much, a bit gruff..just flew in, kicked the crap out of whatever was the problem, and flew out. ...the fleischer cartoons had him down pat too!

I blame Lois Lane. The hotter she got, the goofier Superman got.

^I think the earliest Lois was pretty hot. She was much more like the modern Lois, the capable daredevil reporter. Not the annoying, prying hostage she came to be under Wesinger.

Superman definitely went from social crusader to people's protector. Both have their merits.

I LOVE the story where he makes a rich mine owner take his Bored Socialite party to one of his miones to suffer a colapse, just so the owner could learn how dangerous it was. Also Supes never wore his costume ! Hew was disgused as a miner !

          Very Batman.

              Hmmmm....

Superheroes had a big decline after WW2, and they slowly kiddied Supes up to maintain an audience. Happened to a few characters. After Wertham, Superheroes; and comics in general were considered strictly kids stuff.
