    Green Arrow vs Hawk Eye?

So I never read many comics with either of these two guys, but my son got a Green Arrow happy meal toy yesterday. What a waste! He wanted to know what "he does". I didn't have an answer...these guys just shoot arrows? Really? And they carry arrows with boxing gloves or TNT sticks sewn tightly on? And they both look SO silly, even for super heroes.

Is Green Arrow related to Robin Hood?

Please tell me what I am missing!

That version of Green Arrow in Brave and the Bold is based on the earliest incarnation of the GL, who for all intents and purposes was a Batman clone complete with sidekick, arrowcar, arrowcave, etc.

He was made into a "relevant" liberal social crusader with a beard in the seventies when paired with Green Arrow by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams, and that is the version that continues in the regular DC comic books to this day (more or less).

His connection to Robin Hood was the fact that he was a huge Errol Flynn fan as a kid, and even owns one of Flynn's bows.

Hawkeye was a reformed criminal who joined the Avengers immediately after Iron Man, Thor and Giant Man left the original team. He was kind of a jerky "spoiler" character that constantly challenged Cap. To me that was when he was most interesting.

He's since led the West Coast Avengers, led the Thunderbolts, died, came back, joined the New Avengers as Ronin and is now Hawkeye again. Marvel is trying to turn him and his ex-Wife Mockingbird into "The Mr and Mrs Smith of the Marvel Universe".

The origin story changes a bit in each incarnation (the 40's one explains Speedy better) but basically both men are batman knockoffs the only difference is how rich they were to start
