    Teen Titans Swingin' Elseworlds Special

Looks like DC is finally giving in and releasing the Teen Titans Swingin' Elseworlds Special, but retitling it as "TEEN TITANS: THE LOST ANNUAL".
This was supposed to appear back in '03 but they canned it. It'll be nice to read Bob Haney's final TT tale.

So glad this is finally going to see the light of day. Too bad Allred's Metal Men got canned in favor of the current miniseries.

Looking at that picture reminded me that I sometimes wonder why Mego didn't make a Teen Titan Robin...

I can't wait to see this - Haney writing and Cardy doing the cover. I love seeing classic teams like that reunited. Now if we could just get George Perez to finish the Games graphic novel...

I actually dug the '60s hipster speak, man! It was some pretty groovy, far-out stuff! Hopefully Wonder Chick, Gillhead and the rest of the gang will still be speakin' that crazy lingo!

You can guarantee they'll be speakin' like that! It is hard to read...aloud. I've read several early TT tales to my son (from the Showcase Presents...volume).

But I dig the groove-speak, Flasheroo!

It will be so nice to see some classic Teen Titans action, instead of the crap that's been in the modern book lately. I love the Silver Age version, and the New Teen Titans by George Perez is one of my favorite team books ever. They had a decent start when Jeff Johns relaunched the team with former Young Justice members being mentored by Cyborg and Starfire. But the book has gone downhill since then.

Definitely...the inclusion of Miss Martian, Kid Devil, etc. just doesn't excite me. Couple that with the fact that the "original" New Teen Titans are being relaunched in a book by...wait for it..........Judd Winnick, and you can see why my enthusiasm for this retro book is pretty high, even if it is a one-shot.

DC currently employs George Perez. They currently employ Marv Wolfman. Do the math. Why aren't THESE guys on this new Titans book?

Even though I'm enjoying Perez on Brave and the Bold I'd be glad to see him swap it out to do the Titans monthly (or as his schedule permits) with Wolfman! Marv's been on the fringe lately with his Nightwing work but it'd be great to see him return to the characters he's best known for (besides Tomb of Dracula).

Unfortunately someone at DC (Didio?) seems intent on throwing high profile project after another at Judd Winnick...not sure what the deal is there. Most opinions I've encountered on the man's "writing" ability have been negative so I don't see how he keeps turning out the dollars for DC.

I think Winnick originally came to prominence on his Pedro and Me GN (about his friend and Real World housemate's battle with AIDS) and a humor comic that escapes me. I don't personally care for his super hero writing, but then I don't really care for Greg Rucka's either. I think they are both fine writers, but both seem to like to change characters to their liking, rather than write about the characters they are assigned to.

I liked "Pedro and Me," and I think it's great that Winnick wants to spread awareness of AIDS. I didn't even think it was a terrible thing that he wrote Mia as an HIV-positive teen during his run on Green Arrow. I recall reading some older Vertigo stuff by him that wasn't bad, and I will admit to liking his run on Outsiders. But his run on Batman was awful. I'll still probably check out the first issue of this new Teen Titans project, all the while crossing my fingers that he's just good at team books.

Sometimes it's better off leaving things as they are.

I personally think that they are better off finishing the GAMES graphic novel (which is apparently still in the pipeline) rather than go back and try to recapture that lightning in a bottle.

As much as I love his work on the early Teen Titans, Wolfman stayed on the title waaaay beyond the past due date, and even they admitted that their reunion on the Who is Wonder Girl arc around the fiftieth issue of the redubbed New Titans was less than ideal.

Although Perez was still bringing his "A" game to the artwork after recharging his batteries on Wonder Woman.

It might be interesting to see how Perez handles the latest generation of Teen Titans (Supergirl, Wonder Girl, Kid Devil, Ravager et al) rather than return to Changling, Cyborg, Starfire and co. I would like to see him paired with a writer like Geoff Johns or even Grant Morrison.

How was Marv Wolfman's return to Nightwing? I was waffling about whether I should pick it up once it got to trade format.

I thought he did a pretty good job on the recent Teen Titans Annual, although I'm not sure how much of that was Geoff Johns bringing his passion for those characters to the table.
