One of my favorite titles/characters of all-time. One of the first comic runs I completed.
A rotten shame what DC did to the Kamandi timeline.
I'd love to see a Kamandi movie some day.

I love Kamandi. I tried the "re-imagined" title they had in the 1990's and it stunk. They tried to make it darker. The world has ended and mankind is an endangered spieces-how much darker do you wanna get!?!?!?! Kirby's version will always rule.Comment

I was introduced to Kamandi in 1990, or thereabouts. I am now working on a complete run.
totally loved the character in "Wednesday Comics".Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figuresComment

HAW! Yeah. The 90's one was pretty bad. The 70's one was all sorts of nifty. Plenty of Kirby-esque strangeness and it really felt like there was a giant backstory we were only getting bits of. You could see a lot of it in the Thundarr cartoon too.

I liked the 90s version at the time, not that it held a candle to the original but it really revived my interest in the character.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Read the originals when they came out and love the story and the characters. Some accussed Kirby of ripping off the Apes franchise, but he often said hes never even seen ny of the Apes films. I dont think he swiped from them either. The general concept of a world gone wrong, and animals rising up to become the premiere species has been around forever...his was just better fleshed out than most of the others. I think the brief appearances in Brave and the Bold have proven this series has legs, and would love to see a Kamandi cartoon and toy line!!!"Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

I really enjoy Kamandi--slightly derivative of POTA but wildy inventive Kirby fun.
I have both Archive volumes and re-read them often. I'd love to see a movie or toy line!WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

This can't be a coincidence can it?
I do appreciate the concept and Kirby style execution, but it certainly surprised me when I learned that Kamandi was the most popular of his 70's DC Creations. A boy in cut-off jeans just seems so less-colourful than The Demon or Mister Miracle Super Escape Artist or Sandman Master of Dreams etc.
What I love about his Brave and Bold appearances are that they seem to just hint at bigger storylines that are left to our imaginations.Last edited by samurainoir; Aug 23, '10, 11:47 AM.Comment

Were it not for the DC Implosion of 1978 I think Kamandi may have made it all the way to the Crisis or at least until the demise of the horror books in the early 80's.
I've always wondered whether there were any suggestions to resurrect Kamandi's title but knowing the Crisis was coming they decided against it?
