Did You Ever Order From Those Small Comic Book Ads Back In The Day?

I don't mean ordering the toys you could get in retails stores. I mean those ads for things like working hovercrafts or x-ray specs. Maybe you even ordered some facial hair!

If you did, what did you get? Was it a huge rip-off? I've always wondered, but never had the courage to spring for a real 7-foot Frankenstein or a midget spy camera.

I ordered quite a bit from American Entertainment back in the 90's. Does that count?

      Hmmmm....

Way back when I ordered a catalog from "Cosmic Connections;" a model kit importer. I got LOTS of stuff from them. (It's where my lifelong Gundam fixation started.) Saw the ad.... all tiny-like, in an issue of Rom. (The first one with the WitchWraiths.)

I can remember seeing those ads I just do not remember ever ordering anything from them. I wanted the 100 toy soldier set. For some reason I never got it. I think that with mail order being fairly new in those days that my parents was afraid of mail order fraud. A lot of the parents back in those days were really skeptical about stuff like that. Everything back then was a rip off to them.

You would not by chance have larger pictures of those would you?

Also does anyone know who actually made those army soldiers in the ad? I might want to try and track them down via Feebay.

Thanks for bringing back the memories!

I never ordered anything, but from what I've heard, the 7 foot Frankenstein was just basically a big fold out Frankie poster, and that chest full of 100 soldiers were these really small, flat (not really three dimensional) soldiers in a tiny cardboard "chest".
Oh, and Sea Monkeys are brine shrimp, and the x-ray glasses just give you a headache.

A friend of mine ordered the X-Ray specs. They were sucky beyond compare.

I ordered some stuff from Heroes' World in the early 80s. Those "activated" Marvel figure sets with the little scissor-like mechanisms attached to what was essentially large "army-men" like Marvel figures.

Didn't American Entertainment become Entertainment Earth?

This is EXACTLY the type of informatrion I was curious about. Thanks! I'd love to find someone who ordered the hovercraft or sub.

I was wondering the exact same thing this past weekend. Great minds, right?

                    Awesome! Thank you so much.

For some reason I always thought of the soldiers offered in this ad was the little green men that was mfgd. by TIMMEE toys.

Dude. My kids love Gundam! It's the only comics I can get them to read.
                      Hey! Check out the pictures.

I ordered and got the toy soldiers as a kid. I was very disappointed at first since they were flat, but as I recall they had some nice tooling/etchings in the plastic and like any toy and some imagination they got used a bit. They were just not like the green army men in Toy Story.
                          It's all good!

Things I can remember ordering from comic adds ....

                            X-ray vision glasses
                            GIANT 6-foot ghost

6-foot ghost was a huge letdown

Wasn't that one basically a balloon and a big piece of white tissue paper?
