>The whole "recruiting an army of Batmen" thing just SUCKS to me!
Plus, it's already been done. A few times. Unfortunately what would have been a single issue.... maybe two, is probably gonna be a zillion part "mini" series, with tie-ins to every other comic DC makes, and another "mini" series a year and a half from now to both answer all the questions from this one, and undo it.

Hopefully sales will fall...and DC will get the hint.

Man ..., That Batman Cover and Story in Wizard, sure was somewhat Vauge and Mis- Leading.
... I dunno, I think the Suit looks very Movies Inspired to me.
But ..., I don't think I will buy this book, where as I was at 1 point excited for it. ... I'm just not digging the Rumored Concept and Now The Reality of the Story. I'll, just finish everything where He's back ..., then Bail, once things go back to Normal.Leave a comment:

No trunks sucks. It sucked in the 90s and it does now. I know the trunks should be lame, but he just doesn't look right without them.
This seems influenced by the Arkham Asylum game.

DC continuity taken to an entire new level of absurd realism!
It would appear that Kevin Smith's revelation below is the Secret Origin of the new feature we've been discussing on the Bat-costume.
To avoid any more unfortunate "bat-accidents", the Bat-suit's Bat-crotch has Bat-snaps which enable Batman to go to the um... Bat-throom more easily.

>Nothing say's "Look at my crotch" like throwing on a codpiece.
Maybe it's a Depends, in case of.... er.... "bladder spasms."
>To purposely stagnate oneself just to please the masses...bothers me.
I don’t think it’s always intentional. Every artist has an idea of what stuff is SUPPOSED to look like, and eventually you hit it. Unless you’re really into art theory.... but most aren’t. In addition, a lot of superhero cartoonists get into the biz without a personal vision. “I wanna draw Speedball!” is a common inspiration. (Well, maybe not Speedball, but you get the idea.) So there’s a tendency to fall into whatever the current trends are ‘cos that represents the “right” way of doing it. (And then when you’re old you can crab about how the kids today just don’t get it.)
>I like drawing seams.
I’ve NEVER heard that sentence before. Ever. But yeah; I understand the sentiment. One thing I’ve always found Japanese and European cartoonists better at than us is texture: items look like they’re made out of different material. Our stuff looks like it’s all plastic.
>yet we can see every blood vessel like somebody painted a roided-out wrestler gray.
Superheroes have always been drawn as nekkid people with body paint. (Nekkid, genital-less people.) Partly for expedition, partly to show off anatomy. Referring to my earlier point, it’s become “the right way” so it takes a while for things to switch over. Vacillation was big in the 90's, so we’re still seeing it ‘cos a lot of the current crop of cartoonists cut their teeth in that era.

For me personally as an artist, I like drawing seams. If a character is wearing jeans, I want people to know thats what they're wearing. You do have to know when you're over-doing something in your art and stop before it gets out of hand. Yes there are artists who take it too far (as with anything) I stick with areas like the knees, elbows, across the chest, armpits or any area where there IS going to be creases and just imply that they are there.
I can't speak for other artists but I do get a little out of joint when people seem to want us to dumb something down just because its comics. You draw to the best of your ability, you never stop learning and you never stop evolving. To purposely stagnate oneself just to please the masses...bothers me.Leave a comment:

I thought Bruce's schtick was that costumed crime fighting was far too dangerous and he was mondo reluctant to let anyone in on that. Now he's returning and building a Bat army?Leave a comment:

Dutch Batman would have a windmill or dyke theme and wear wooden shoes.
Belgian Batman would claim to have the best chocolate and beer in the world, but everyone just ends up comparing him to Jean Claude Van Damme.
I bet Morrison is going to try and slip in his creation Most Excellent SuperBat for Japan. (But at least it won't be a Samurai or Ninja Batman *yawn*)
