It's on my list of "to dos".

You can watch it here for free along with the Captain America and Captain Marvel Serials.
(Well, The Vigilante was there, at one time...let me look around because I know it exists somewhere online)
blip.tv (since 2005) Captain America Serial
blip.tv (since 2005) Captain Marvel Serial

The History of Comic on Film Series on this site gave The Vigilante Series high marks.

I love Vig, and I've always wanted to see this. Ralph Byrd played Dick Tracy 100 gazillion times as well.

Still need to get it from my serial guy. He's looking for a better master of it.

Why did they make Green Hornet,Flash Gordon etc. on DVD but not Vigilante? He's a DC Character and they made the Batman & Superman serials on DVD...

Didn't know the Hornets were out on legit dvd. Flash Gordon is the king of serials, so its a natural for dvd release, Bats and Superman are popular enough to get released. Vigilante, not so much.

Yea I got them from the library:

I think I saw them on E-Bay for under $7 each

                  They are OK

And since the entire Vigilante serial would fit on DVD I'd say do it

I had a bootleg copy of it a few years back....but my copy cracked never replaced it. Typical Columbia low budget serial has it's moments but nothing spectacular about it.....

yeah, the Columbias pale in comparrison to Republic.

I've recently been watching the Flash Gordon serials, and even though they are 10 years older, the effects alone really outshine Columbia's Superman. Although the Supes serials do have their charm. I have a hard time making it through their Batman serials.

I love the Flash Gordon serials because they used everything they could find in the Universal lot recycling costumes, sets, etc......I think that's why it has it's charm.

Superman only failed because of the disappointing flying scenes. it was such a let down. especially when you see Republic pictures Captain Marvel and they're inventive flying scenes and Cap being raw and violent.

Kirk Alyn does a great job as Superman and Kent. I really do like his version of Clark a lot.

The first Batman Serial is clearly better it has the Batcave and lot's of action.
Alfred's version in the serial inspired them to change the comic version to the movie version.
The other Batman the 1949 version with Robert Lowery as Batman is horrible and it's said that it was what inspired the campy tv show....I find that one really hard to sit through........

I liked Lowery as Batman, but the second one was pretty lame compared to the first.
