that's a good question my first thought was Red Tornado but I checked the issue and it's Firestorm

Wow. You touched on an old storyline I remember oh so well. This was back in the good ole days when you KNEW any comic book Carmine Infantino started drawing, meant the death knell for that magazine. I loved Carmine's style in the 60's but then something happen to him in the 70's and we started getting all of these strange perspective drawings where you were always looking up the characters nose for some reason. This not only happened in the Flash but also in Nova. Two magazines I thoroughly enjoyed. But I digress...

I agree with Anthony. Zoom really had this coming to him. He had destroyed Barry's life completely. I thought the JLA were way too judgmental. At least Superman had cast the saving vote. But having a split team didn't sit well with Barry and who could blame him? I especially didn't like it when Hawkman chimed in and said the Flash would be on "probation" until a court verdict was reached. He was a real backstabber and I quit liking that character for a while over that remark.

The longest, most depressing storyline in the history of comics. I'm still amazed someone at DC didn't step in and stop that train wreck. You read in interviews where everyone involved with Crisis says something to the effect of "Flash was so damaged the best thing to do was kill him off". Well, why let it get that far? Cary Bates did well elsewhere, but he wrote the book for like 15 years or something. Maybe he needed to leave?

That is Firestorm's hand, and the JLA was way too harsh on him. Barry didn't intentionally kill him anyhow, he just grabbed Zoom too tight, and snapped his neck.

And Infantino's work was pretty rough here. On his early return issues it wasn't bad, but by the end, about every panel was a closeup, so he wouldn't have to put much effort in. A far cry from his great Silver Age run.

I've never read this issue. I want to now. I wouldn't vote Flash out. There is no way Barry would kill on purpose.

That is kind of ironic. Also, if the bare handed one is Superman, he would execute the Phantom Zone villains post-Crisis.

Aquaman also adapted a harder line for the "greater good" after Crisis and probably would have supported Barry in the hook hand incarnation.
