I do like the look, I'd just ditch the shiney crap and go back to a full chainmail shirt and red and white striped undershirt. I like the utility belt and black boots and pants. Its kind of giving me a itch to update my custom cap.
You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks
I haven't read cap for years but is Nomad (the 50's bucky) still around?
There was a very touching one-off issue in this latest Captain America series written by Ed Brubaker, called something along the lines of "The Sad Lonely Death of Jack Munroe", featuring a down on his luck Nomad trying to get his act together. His killed in this issue, and his killer is later revealed to be the Winter Soldier, acting as a mindless assasin for the Russians.
The Winter Soldier is revealed to be Bucky and is "cured" by the Cap wielding a cosmic cube.
Cap subsequently died before reconnecting with his former sidekick in any meaningful capacity. The Captain America ongoing is currently focusing on The Winter Soldier as it's central character along with Sharon Carter and The Falcon, which leads most of us to suspect that he's going to be taking the mantle of Captain America (as per Steve Rogers last request to Tony Stark).
He showed up recently in the pages of The Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman written by Peter David. It's later revealed that this is an alternate universe Uncle Ben.
House of M had an interesting Spiderman mini featuring Uncle Ben still alive given the fact that Scarlet Witch had granted each of the heroes their fondest wishes for happiness.

Thanks I couldn't remember Jack's last name and was too lazy to dig out my Cap issues to find out.
>Marvel has said that, "Steve Rogers is going to stay dead"....
Just like Bucky. And Captain Mar-Vel. And Jean Grey. (A few times....)
Don C.
Right on Steve will stay dead only until the sales plummet and they need to juice them up then it will be time for a resurection(It wasn't Steve who was killed but actaully ... a red skull clone or a shield Simulacrim etc etc) or an outright reboot (the last 50 years never happened and we just discovered him flaoting in the ice cap the way Ultimates and DC does it)
I'm sorry, but I just don't like it. I love Alex Ross but this design is too dark, too muted and too police-officer-like to ring true as Captain America.
Also, I understand that Cap has used firearms in the past, especially during WWII when he employed a machine gun against the Japanese. But a handgun as part of his permanent, orthodox costume simply doesn't feel right to me. It's like giving Batman a gun because it's "cool" or because it's a "logical" choice given his profession. It may be both of those things, but isn't right for that character, and I really feel that it isn't right for this one, either.

I can't find the specific panels from the Golden Age Detective Comics with Bats using a gun against his enemies, but we should keep in mind that in his earliest appearances, Batman was a gun toting vigilante who was known to kill the bad guys.
Bats' gun didn't last long in the Golden Age though...think of those stories as a "work in progress" until Kane and Finger hit their stride with the character. Sort like Superman beating up on the wife-beaters!

I seem to recall that proto-Bats was less interested in shooting Villians and prefered to break their necks as his method of Justice.
I recall Warren Ellis once jokingly state that if he got to write Batman, he'd have Batman deter the criminal element by ripping off their nipples.
I am greatly amused that this is what Ellis ended up doing when he did finally get his hands on the Dark Knight...
