-I was never really a superhero fan, so this (and the nerd rage resulting) seem kinda funny to me.
Okay; REALLY funny.... especially from the guys who've been poo-pooing NON-superhero comics since I was a kid. ("Say; if Batman whizzed himsef then, imagine what he did when DREDD KICKED HIS ***!!!!! High-five!")
-I can actually see it as an attempt to humanize Batman a little. Problem is, Batman (and ANY superhero, really) aren't human. They're cyphers. Archetypes. Once you humanize them it opens the door to all sorts of questions that CAN'T be answered. (Like: If Brue Wayne was a rich kid, howcome nobody noticed his sociopathy early, and sent him for help?) Plus; Batman is 14 year old wish fulfilment in it's most pure form: having him whiz himself breaks the illusion.
But it does kinda make me feel bad for the writer. They've macho'd superheroes up about as much as you can without becoming one of "THOSE" comics.... there's nowhere left to go for anything even remotely novel except the other way, with more humane, subdued characters. Maybe more depth? (Doubtful. That'd require consequence as well.) Doing that would be a trick. The Giffen Justice League did, but that's the 80's.... and those are still 5 years away.
Is Kevin Smith really trying to play with humanizing the character - or is he just trying to make really easy poo-poo pee-pee jokes - like he ALWAYS does?

Seems to me it's a little of both: they don't really DWELL on it enough to seem like a joke, but few authors stray far from what they know. He probably wanted to show Bats at a disadvantage, and that was all that came to mind.
So, now the REAL questions are: how long until DC does a 105 part miniseries to retcon this out, and who's gonna be the author that uses this as the basis of a 213 part miniseries 20 years from now?
