                                          I don't recall his origin--he started as an evil industrialist & then when all "Leader", subsequently becoming nearly immobile.

                                              Originally Hector Hammond evloved when he came in contact with a meteor. Later on it was said that portions of this meteor also created the highly advanced Gorilla City (over in the Flash comic).

                                              Since Geoff Johns rebooted Hal Jordan's origin a year or so ago (prior to Blackest Night), Hector's origin was changed too. He now evolved after coming in contact with a meteor in Abin Sur's spaceship.

                                              So it looks like the movie origin is going to go along those lines, tweaking it slightly....
