And that's the reason I always check out the attic of any place I move.
That said, it's interesting what collections may show up in certain areas of the country. I know that decades ago you weren't considered a real "fan" in the Chicago area unless you had a full run of the JSA in All-Star Comics. Makes me wonder how many of those runs are still waiting to be found.Comment

much, much, much less than the thing is worth for sure.
Everytime I see a story of a great find like this i can't help but think that the seller is a complete dope. Taking a comic into a comic book shop to see what it's worth is like asking a potential buyer what your home is worth. Hundred bucks? OK, you're the expert. here ya go. Actually it's worse, because if someone says your house is only worth a couple bucks most people would know better.
have they no internet, bookstores or libraries where these people live? Ten minutes of research and he'd have scored hundreds of thousands more.
This guy was probably really happy with his sale when he walked out of the store, but he is now reading about how much his comic is worth in the national news, and it's all his fault that he sold it to the first guy that he asked.Evildoers tremble at the name... AaronComment

In the article it says the seller came in with a price guide, and had been to another comic shop first, where they felt they weren't being treated fairly. Apparently they had a general idea of the value, the shop owner graded it for them, and purchased it at a price they were comfortable with. Sounds right to me. Not really sure a better way to go about selling a comic like that.

Sorry, I meant to post a link to THIS article from Newsarama, which does mention that the seller knew a bit about what they had:

That's nice.
The local comic shop in Asheboro (the Comic Conspiracy) had a similar find when a lady walked in with some books her father had bought her as a child. They were purchased while she waited in the car and included some funny animal, an Action Comics issue and Amazing Fantasy#15!
It was bought and sold fairly and everybody won. I even got to hold and read through it!
Good times.

I live near Pittsburgh and first heard this on the local radio news. I know Todd McDevitt,
so it was weird to hear his name on the radio. One of Todd's New Dimension Comics
stores is a stone throw from my house. I was in the store yesterday and the guy working
there told me Todd's purchase also made news in London!Comment
