Preview to Cooke's New "Parker" Graphic Novel

Picked this up at the Comic Shop today.

IDW Publishing | The home of 30 Days of Night, Star Trek, Terminator, Transformers, G.I. Joe...

Oversized format (8x12) of a complete chapter prelude to the new Parker Graphic Novel, The Outfit.

Haven't read it, yet, but the art just screams Darwyn Cooke. I want to frame every page of this thing and hang them all around my place.

Printed on heavy paper, intro by Cooke, this was a heck-of-a bargain at only $2.

Just picked it up today as well. Looking forward to reading it, although it's a shame to have to wait until October for the entire story!

After reading through this, I'm jazzed to pick up "The Outfit"!!!!

Cooke is amazing. This little Two Dollar Preview is amazing. The last half of it (literally, from the staple-fold on) has very little dialog because Cooke let's the pictures do the talking. He winds the story up and lets it go.

I've stated a deep appreciation of Cooke's work on this board in the past, and I don't want to overhype anything, but I'm holding this thing in my hands and it seems familiar and fresh in the same heartbeat. Cooke has a knack for that and this does not disappoint.

Have you read Selena's Big Score?

It's nice to see Cooke digging back into the crime/noir stuff.

Maybe in the future IDW will release the Parker stuff in an oversized graphic novel "Absolute" HC format, it seems to really fit the work. I was kind of disappointed to hear that The Outfit won't be at that size after getting a gander at how good it looks in the preview.

I haven't read "Selina's Big Score", yet...I'm still trying to track it down, along with a few other things he has done. It is on my list, though and I will get to it.

I'm with you on wishing the Parker stuff was in this oversized format. Did'ja notice that Cooke, in the introduction, stated that this is the best format for the work? I think an "Absolute" format is in order. I love my Absolute New Frontier, even though I read the softcover TPBs before I bought it. Cooke's work needs to be unleashed like that.

I've been drooling over that Absolute New Frontier for a while now. It's got lots of extras in it right?

I was really lucky to get ahold of his art book before it disappeared off the face of the planet. He even drew a little sketch in it when he signed it a few months back.

Full of illustrations that hint of the many other types of non-superhero projects he might have up his sleeve in the future (although it has some great New Frontier illos as well).

^The Absolute New Frontier has quite a few extras including some scenes that didn't make it into the comic run or the Two Volumes of the TPB. There are some design sketches and commentary included, as well. I tried to track it down for a year or two, but it wasn't until the Second Edition came out last Summer that I was able to get a copy.

I wish I had a copy of Retroactive!! Lucky You!!! It is sold out everywhere.

I've had my eye on this, as well.

That expressive style is really terrific.
