There's some Kirbyisms going on in that armor, which I dig. What they are missing is the little actual Nordic touches Kirby put in to ground it. Like some random fur, horns, and feathers. Where the heck is Thor's frickin' helmet?!? We've yet to see it!!!
Yeah, the Odin armor has a some Kirby goodness going on for sure, but I agree, it's missing the horns and fur and the whole Kirby Crazy Helmet thing that you always saw on Odin in the old comics.
But what's all this %^$# about the Norse gods being aliens?
Honestly, what's wrong with the people in charge of the comics these days?
It occurs to me Hopkins as Odin is the anchor of this movie, like Brando was for Superman. I think Brian Blessed was the more inspired choice, but Hopkins has name value.

Because story lines in comics sometimes doesn't translate well to movies and modern movie goers.
The alien concept is less offending to people than "gods"...that's a conflict of interest to people of faith (who are the majority)...to most...there's only one God.
And I'm sure the helmet will make an appearance in the film...I just don't think Thor will be wearing it all the time (perhaps just for battle scenes)...he won't be wearing it while just talking for example...that would be almost comical.
Besides, I hear the comics are going in the same direction as well.
Hopkins is a fine choice for Odin...the only thing I don't like is the eye patch...that means he's unable to see from that eye (or grow another one, lol)...that explains why he's an alien and not a god...lol.

Thor's helmet, if handled well, would be no more comical than Captain America's wings, but I guess they ditched those too.
Odin has had the eyepatch off and on in the comics.

They could definitely use some horns and fur, but credit where it's due, Kirby's stuff often did have some Chariots and the Gods vibe to it with spaceships and that Krazy Kirby technology meshing with the mythological characters. Mostly in the seventies stuff, but it was there in Thor prior to that as well.

I like your explaination, Hector, but for a comic movie the idea of more than one god, especially from actual history shouldn't be that offensive. You may be right though, as an attempt to broaden the appeal. There are even still people who worship the Norse gods, and then some people also think we are all aliens.
"Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."
I feel the same way about lack of helmets. Doesn't feel right. And like the 60s toon, where is Loki's helmet w/ the long horns?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
