Harvey Pekar, a comic book writer who spun the mundane details of his own life and of his fellow Cleveland residents into comic-book narratives, passed away today at the age of 70

Very sad, I enjoyed his work and his late nite appearances are TV history.

This is super weird, but he was in a dream I had just last night. How odd.

That is a real shame. It's good that the past ten years post-American Splendor movie had been so productive and successful for him, and he finally got the recognition he deserved so late in life.

The Vertigo American Splendor series finally paired him with some of the best artists in the biz, and he'd really started to branch out into some very challenging and diverse subject matter in his non-fiction graphic novel writing.

I enjoyed seeing him on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.

Just saw this on the Cleveland news--what a shame. We've lost a unique voice & perspective in comics.

Pekar did great commentaries on our local NPR station, as well.

I watched Letterman tonight hoping he'd say something, could be it was announced too late to do anything. I really hope Letterman does a little tribute tomorrow.

What a shame. He did some great comics, I'll always remember his appearances on Letterman, and the "American Splendor" movie is really good. RIP Harvey.
