Thats a shame about norton , and yes it appears the Marvel movie machine is strating to fall apart, Whats worse , is you know Disney is going to get their tentacles in there somehow , and really foul everything up more. Maybe this is behind the Norton thing , maybe not, but If memory serves me correct was there a rift between Marvel / Norton and studio after the Incredible Hulk Film anyways ?

During the release , I believe ...., Norton wanted some different stuff in the Flim , that wasn't or something, And was upset about it.
You Know When Star's Cry Out and have thier "Baby" Moments ...., most times I think , Whatever Dude ...., But Man, He delivered in Hulk, and I really enjoyed His Performance Myself. I wish He can be in the Avenger's.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

This is a good blog summary of a Variety article which gives some background:
Hulksterpiece
So it sounds like a number of issues which resulted in no one getting quite what they wanted exactly, but everyone being professional enough to put good faces on it for the film release and not start an industry flame war, which is both good for the film and good for careers. Norton didn't do much press, I'm sure, because he was ****ed about final cut changes, etc.
Personally I think his version might have been pretty interesting but who knows? It's just one of those things like the Donner Superman cut in which studio vs artist, etc.
So I wouldn't be surprised if Norton's not back, but the Avengers is also a pretty large team - getting a lot of alter ego time with everyone would drag it down. I hope it's more Hulk Smash (and I'd love a frankenstein kirby hulk too, too bad it's woefully unlikely)
OTOH
I was really ****ed to see that they'd recast Iron Man with Don Cheadle. That hit all my "why, because they look alike to you" buttons... Just like Last Airbender's swap making the brown hero characters white actors and the white villian characters brown actors. Hollywood , Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Also, I found IM2 to be a giant steaming pile of movie - the villian's motives did not exist, his origin was senseless, Tony Stark's character development/interest/enjoyability actually went backwards, and any time something seemed to start getting interesting they drop it or throw it away... like when Stark meets with the villain in the holding cell and puts the whole "plot to kill" aside for a moment, because the thing Stark can't fathom is actually that the guy failed to properly monetize his technology! That's awesome! That's completely Tony Stark and the A type Entrepreneur personality... But then they drop that and don't develop the hate relationship between them at all.
Also the stuff with Stark's father in the super 8 film footage? Could have been an interesting character angle exploration, but again just kind of thrown away and forgotten. You ultimately forget why the character is supposed to be interesting. The guy who flew out to engage militia for using his weapon tech on women and children was gone completely...
If that is the road-map marvel is taking I'll be really sad.Last edited by Tothiro; Jul 11, '10, 4:47 AM.Comment

It doesn't bother me that Norton isn't coming back. The Avengers Movie done right, will cost a lot of Money $$$$$
So going with an unknown will save Money...and stop bickering over creative control.
Personally...I really don't even want to see the Hulk in the Avengers AT ALL!sigpicComment

The rumor I heard about The Avengers plot was that some villain managed to separate Hulk from Banner, and is controlling Hulk, who is on a rampage. The Avengers have to try and stop him, and convince Banner to find a way to rejoin with the Hulk. If that is the story, Banner would get lots of screen time, and stuff to work with.

>I hope they find someone who is similar to either Bill Bixby and/or Edward Norton. Not any old average schmoe.
The irony being; Banner IS an old average schmoe! ‘Course that’s tough to pull off entertainingly. Norton was okay, but I kept expecting stuff like “....the first rule of Hulk is.... HULK SMASH!!!” or for him to curb one of the technicians.
>if it's gonna be a real Hulk it should have that Kirby Frankenstein look
True.... but Ferrigno is SO on... Holee Smokes he’s one mountain of ambulatory meat! He’s kinda short though; the Hulk always looks at least a head taller than everyone else. (Mego Hulk maybe?)

E Online broke the story today its not a rumor its official Norton's out.Marvel said is was not money but who cares Norton is a good actor but has a huge Ego and everyone knows it and when your working in an Ensemble cast film the spotlight wont be on him you have to have a give and take attitude which Norton does not have plus I heard this one is a rumor that he was trying to take over the script for rewrites at secret early meeting and Joss Whedon said hell no! Bring Back Eric Bana he would be great I say!!Last edited by kennermike; Jul 11, '10, 10:04 PM.Comment

They are actually doing some interesting stuff with Howard Stark in the SHIELD origin miniseries currently.Comment

While overall the second Hulk movie was better (continuity and story wise)...nothing beats the first Hulk's scene in the desert sand dunes battling the tanks...nothing...that sequence was unbelievable...there's absolutely nothing in the sequel that matches this...the CGI is just superior...

...and this Hulk can really jump...not Norton's Hulk lame building hopping...lol...

Check out these new comments on Superherohype. Looks like its turning into a slagging match.
UPDATE: Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige confirmed the report with the following statement he sent to the site:
"We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."
Marvel Studios is planning a May 4, 2012 release for The Avengers.
UPDATE #2: This looks to be turning into a war of the press statements. Brian Swardstrom of WME, which represents Norton, fired the following off to HitFix after the site posted Feige's above comment:
This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light. Here are the facts: two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at ComiCon and make it the event of the convention. When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with Joss Whedon to discuss the project. Edward and Joss had a very good meeting (confirmed by Feige to me) at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast. Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith. This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings.
We know a lot of fans have voiced their public disappointment with this result, but this is no excuse for Feige's mean spirited, accusatory comments. Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his. Feige's statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory. Mr. Norton talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel's fans.Comment
