    Brightest Day?

Brightest Day or should it be called Blandest Day?

The storylines in this book are moving far too slow. I've gone from wondering about the white ring and lantern to not really caring one way or the other.

Maybe a less fractured approach would work better. Maybe they should have just introduced several miniseries or had Aquaman, Martian Manhunter et al start off their new lives as backups in other series.

I just find the pace of the stories uneventful. The art's pretty good though.

But I hate seeing a page here a page there of Ivan Reis' art when he could be drawing another full book. With Blackest Night, he gained recognition as one of the top artists in the business but now his work is submerged. Even though I can pretty much guess who's drawing what, it's irritating that the credits don't list the page numbers the various artists have drawn.

I'm hoping things will begin to pull together at some point, but 4 issues in, I'm firmly considering waiting for the trade for the rest of the way.

This makes me glad that I didn't buy the single issues. I'll buy the trade at the next convention.

Yeah the pacing is killing me....not to mention it's bi-weekly, which drags it out even more.

I think the only story I'm really interested in is Aquaman's....

I could care less about the whole White Lantern ring and they're making Deadman an unlikeable character for me (and that's saying something cause I've been a big Boston Brand fan for a long time). I don't like his look (lose the trenchcoat, put the deathmask back on) and his cluelessness does not seem in character to me.

Hawkman/Hawkgirl...I wish Geoff Johns had done this storyline way back when he was on the actual Hawkman book instead of leaving it, making the book and the character unreadable under the stewardship of other writers. Heck, it wasn't so long ago that Jim Starlin was going to reboot everything that Johns had created with his terrible Hawkman Special. Glad that got dumped by the roadside....

J'onn J'onnz seems like he might have an interesting story going on but they really aren't devoting a lot of space to it....He'd be better served with his own mini-series.

But I think DC is afraid that individual minis won't sell so they try creating this "event" book and shoehorn everyone's stories in and hope that everything will dovetail at some point and make some sense.

Yeah, that Hawkman special stunk. I'm glad Johns has the power to just throw that idea out and go back to his revision of Hawkman/Hawkgirl.

I disliked losing the silver-age version of the character as his own character, but it was the best compromise after all the convoluted crap dumped on Hawkman continuity in the 1990s. And the re-incarnation angle really does set up a cool, ominous backdrop for the characters.

If executed properly, it could possibly tap into the Twilight fan group. The two Hawkman-related JLU episodes Johns wrote were excellent.

I agree about Boston Brand, too. He's always been kind of wiseguy, smart mouth. This 'Oh I'm so confused' thing doesn't work with him. His defense mechanism was being a smart alec. He should be reacting to this new change like he did when he became Deadman. It's weird that Johns has missed that. He's normally so good at getting to the core of the characters.

I like what I've read of the Aquaman and Martian Manhunter stories. They are just moving too slow.

I've never really been a fan of Hawk and Dove or Firestorm, so I honestly don't care where those stories are going.

I may be wrong, but 52 didn't seem to move this slow. Of course 4 issues doesn't really amount to one full issue of any of the storylines.

But even if the series ties up pretty in the end, it's not worth $3 every other week coming away unsatisfied.

Definitely waiting for the Trade on this one. 52 read better collected. I guess I was expecting more of a Justice League type of title (although maybe this is the part where they are teamed up on separate adventures before the entire group comes together to fight the big bad).

I'm enjoying Justice League Generation Lost four issues in. I wish they would get JM Dematties to dialogue though. It's not the same without his snapper patter.

I am wondering if either series can sustain 24 issues worth of storyline.

I'm glad they brought back Ronnie Raymond...I think the Firestorm matrix with him and Jason Rausch could prove interesting. But I feel they are doing a disservice to Ronnie with his characterization as a slacker doofus...

Granted Professor Stein was always the "brains" of the old matrix but Ronnie was it's heart and was the true hero. This new version of Ronnie is coming across as an unlikeable party dude. I'm sure dying and coming back to life can change your thinking as far as super-heroics but this guy was a JLAer and an A-lister who worked with the best version of the JLA during the Satellite Years....he's no johnny-come-lately. But that's the way he's being written....

I like the Boston Brand stuff, quit a bit.

The Aquaman Stuff is great, if there was just more of it.

The Firestorm stuff just got interesting.
The rest has left me Cold to be honest.

I've lost patience with this unfortunately. I know they are trying to stretch this out to 24 issues and can't possibly keep a fast pace through it's entirety, but this is plodding so far. I'm trying to like this story line and it's crossover titles, but it's difficult. I'm just not that interested in some of these stories.

Hawkman/Hawkgirl - I've never been a fan, so I'm lost in some of the back story. I know there is some kind of reincarnation stuff going on, but I'm clueless on specifics.

Firestorm - I mildly like this character, but I'm neutral to this story's outcome.

Martian Manhunter - I truly like Jonn and I hope this goes somewhere. He's got such a true hero's heart and has been treated with a bit of disrespect over the years.

Prof. Zoom/Captain Boomerang - WHo the hell cares? I don't see this going anywhere.

Aquaman - Now this is what I wanted. Arthur dealing with his powers not working properly and coming to terms with his ressurrection should have been it's own book. Plus, Black Manta wigging out and killing people coldly is a nice touch, if a little out of character. I think this Aqualad has potential too, but I don't know enough yet to make an informed decision.

Max Lord - Very interesting and lots of potential. He's been played up as the most dangerous villain around, but I have a feeling he'll turn out to be somewhat heroic before this is over. His methods may be extreme and callous, but I'm betting it was all for the greater good and he has a master plan that only he can understand.

Hawk/Dove/Deadman - Eh. Never really liked any of these, so I'm barely paying attention. I do want to see how the white ring plays out, though.

The Max Lord Stuff, in Generations Lost, is Fantastic. After reading the 1st 3 issues, I am more into that book, than I am Brightest Day.

i've been pleased Generations Lost, too. I like Max Lord as a villain. Just thought of something — it's probably off base — but could Lord be the culprit behind Wonder Woman's new timeline? Could it all be in her head?

Doubt it, but I'd think he'd want to get back at her or maybe want to stay far away from her.

I think it would be great if Max Lord was Wonder Woman's Big Bad. Her rogues gallery always needs more large scale threats, otherwise it's always Ares, Circe and Cheetah over and over again.

Well, #5 was another non-issue in which more stuff got set up and yet nothing advanced very much...couple fight scenes, more mysterious white lantern messages, etc...I'm beginning to think that we'll soon be hearing of yet ANOTHER series that this is just leading into.

And if you haven't spent your hard-earned recession era cash on the ATOM SPECIAL, save it! In the words of Ralphie Parker:
IT'S A CRUMMY COMMERCIAL! Yes, besides rebooting and redoing Ray Palmer's origin story (for no good reason really), it only leads into the backup series in Adventure Comics- a book I won't buy, not even with the classic numbering restored, not until they give the main slot to a deserving or interesting character (read that as NOT SUPERBOY).

I'm getting to really dislike the Deadman scenes...The only saving grace each issue are the Aquaman scenes....I wish this was just an Aquaman book....everything else seems like filler.

Agreed...this whole thing would have run & been wrapped up in a single issue of JLA back in the day.

The Aquaman part is interesting, certainly I appreciate seeing more of Mera.

Deadman's coming off as a pretty stupid puppet (did he not pay ANY attention to anything that's happened since he died? He had access to the Afterlife, to gods, goddesses, mystics, heaven & hell. And now he's the Ring Puppet? meh).

Hawk & Dove are their typical stereotypes (at least Dove is interesting to look at, Hawk serves no purpose in my mind except to take Guy Gardner's role as obnoxious buffoon),

The Hawks part is way to convoluted so far, and who knows what's going on with Firestorm, except as noted previously, they've chosen to ignore the fact that he's an experienced hero and treat Ronnie Raymond as a frat boy idiot.

As good as I thought Blackest Night was, this is just as bad. Sort of like 52 then Countdown. DC always strikes out in the second inning.
