    Coverless comic value?

I typically stay away from coverless books, but I got one in a lot of old comics today and was shocked when I got home and flipped it open and realized it's an Amazing Fantasy #15.

Anyone have any idea of a value for it?

I could not guess, but it is worth something. I had a Fantastic Four #3 with half the cover missing. I think I paid $20 for it around 1979 and sold it around 1990 for about $60.

The bad thing about coverless comics such as that one is that you're probably going to want more for it than anyone is willing to pay. Anyone capable of spending thousands of dollars or even hundreds for a single comic, probably won't be satisfied with a coverless issue, particularly one reprinted so frequently

I had an Amazing Fantasy 15 that had the title masthead cutoff, but otherwise was in vg or better condition.Spider-man's figure and the guy he was carrying were all there. I paid $55 for it in 1985 and sold it in 1993 for $150. That was at the height of the investor craze, when people were buying everything. A good condition copy at that time with a full cover was going for about $1,000 to $1,200, Fair anywhere from 800 to 1,000. Coverless copies usually were priced for about 10 percent of a good price, if you could get that.

I really don't follow current prices because I've sold off my back issues, but my understanding is that lower grade books go for much less percentage-wise than they once did, while the higher-grade material can go for well over guide price.

But selling anything is finding the right buyer.

You might put it up on ebay for $100 or $150 or whatever you want for it and see what happens.

Or you might just keep it. It's kind of neat to have. You could get a photocopy cover for it.

I think the official Overstreet process for determining value is Poor is 1/2 of Good and coverless 1/2 of Poor?
So using Anthony's figure of $2,400 it may be worth around $500 or more?
But I'd bet if you made a nice photocopy of the original covers, inside and out (If that's even possible?) and just inserted (no staples or anything) the coverless book you could get more?

I think it also may have a lot of value for comic restorers.

make sure it's the real deal, and not a reprint. A lot of people will yank the cover off a reprint in an effort to hide its true nature.

                Hmmmm....

Properly, a coverless book has NO value; (I think it's actually illegal to sell them) but for something that rare and noteworthy you could definitely get something for it. How much is difficult to predict.

Yeah - my initial though was that it might be a reprint. I don't think it should be too hard to research if an Amazing Fantasy 15 was ever reprinted with the original indicia though.

Thanks for the input. I did a Google search and checked eBay and the only reference I found was in a thread where someone talked about paying $300 for one.

I'm about 99% sure it's an original because the other comics being sold were from the same time period, including a Fantastic Four #11 and a Justice League of America #13.

Marvel reprinted AF15 with the inside and back covers as a "Marvel Milestone Edition", so technically it wouldn't be too hard to reproduce a full cover for it, using the reprint to scan the images. Of course, the paper stock could be a bit tricky...

                        Bingo...

There is/are a LOT of restoring going on, especially with vintage books, so it may have more value then you think...but...

I don't have a copy to look at but if it has indicia on the first page it may not be real.
I believe Marvel had a habit of printing the indicia ON THE INSIDE FRONT COVER back then.

                            a coverless

spiderman 1 goes for 300-600 so i would guess it would be worth 600 or 700 depending on completeness and condition

Steve, just keep the thing. You're such a lucky bugger, I'm sure you'll find a loose cover at another auction.
