I was an assistant to artist Ken Landgraf back in the early 90's. Ken was an assistant to Wood in the 70's. He would tell me about his manic personality his heavy drinking and the bad headaches he would get. Many times he would tell his assistants to lay out the drawings while he'd go and take a nap because of his headaches. he then wake up look at what his assistants did and pick up the brush and ink and fix all the work in his style.
Ken showed me a lot of the reference pics that Wood worked from that appeared in comics......
