IMO, the last GREAT X-Men story line was the Days of Future Past. As much as I loved Cockrums runs on X-Men, I can't stand the Brood Saga...and don't even get me started on the Morlock saga.

I liked Brubaker's run as well, and continued into Matt Fraction's run which got better and better as they upped the stakes into X-Nation. Fraction is the only writer I know that has been able to utilize the cast of thousands in an effective way by focusing Scott and Emma at the centre of the maelstorm. My only complaint would be Greg Land art rotating every other issue with the fantastic Terry Dodson.

I also really dug Warren Ellis Astonishing X-Men... particularly the mini featuring the Steampunk X-Men.

I haven't read any of that because I mostly read trades, but Fraction earned my respect with his Iron Fist and Iron Man runs, so I'll get those at some point.

And no question that I'll read Ellis' Astonishing. I love most of his stuff, and all of his superhero stuff. Glad to hear it's good.
