Oh puh-leeeze. He was better when he was on the Flash TV series and went by the name Nightshade.

I always saw Flash TV's Nightshade as the Green Hornet (from the pulps and radio) since GH also used a gas gun and had the black sedan, or even a Combo of GH and Batman

I like the new Sandman look as well, a nod to both Gaiman's and Dodds. Much better than the baseball cap SWAT look.
