Green Lantern/Iron Man Cross-Over "Plotted" on Twitter

This would be too cool if they could get it to happen!

While Matt Fraction was talking about the impending return of the many-ringed villain The Mandarin to the pages of Invincible Iron Man, Geoff Johns had a sudden idea:

@mattfraction What can the Mandarin’s rings do? Iron Man/Green Lantern xover…! about 15 hours ago via TweetDeck
@GeoffJohns0 together, all of ‘em can save the direct market…! #LETSDOTHISTHING about 15 hours ago via Twitter for iPhone in reply to GeoffJohns0
Then it sat for awhile, until Fraction brought it up again, starting to riff a story idea:
wait weren’t me and @geoffjohns0 plotting our GreenLantern/IronMan xover in real tweettime? wasn’t mandarin getting a red ring or something? about 10 hours ago via web
    And Johns responded once more:
@mattfraction Then Hal loses his ring, but finds one of Tony’s suits. And thinks it’s the coolest thing to ever pilot… about 3 hours ago via web in reply to mattfraction

        That would be cool.
I've loved all the Marvel/DC crossovers since the very first Superman/Spider-Man meet up.

Iron Lantern was one of the better Amalgam books. Kurt Busiek and Paul Smith. Nuff Said!

I wish they had given us more than one issue of Iron Lantern instead of multiples of Dark Claw or just bad stuff like Lobo the Duck and Bat-Thing

In reference to this thread, Green Lantern and Iron Man didn't originally headline a crossover in 75.

Geoff Johns has said he's had an Iron Man pitch all plotted out for quite a few years. It would be interesting to see what kind of ideas he would bring to the table for a crossover.

I bet Johns would also be great at redefining Tony's rogues gallery as well.

Other than The Mandarin and Madame Masque, I'm nor sure that he's ever really had strong lasting bad guys.

Crimson's hasn't really been a baddie in a while has he?

But as for the rest on the list... hardly strong contenders for the A-list are they? Other than Whiplash's movie make-over?

I mean THE MELTER? His power is to MELT STUFF!!!? Isn't that close to being a member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes?

^ They might not be "A-list"....but a lot of Marvel heroes don't have "A-listers" like DC's heroes do.

Take Captain America....Besides The Red Skull, who else is "A-list"? Dr. Faustus? Flag-Smasher? Arnim Zola? I can't even THINK of any Cap foes

Thor? He's got Loki and, uh, Loki.....Hela, Destroyer, Surtur, Midgard Serpent are definitely not "A-list"

Hulk at least has The Abomination, The Leader, Rhino, uh....Doc Samson? Gee I'm getting tapped out here too.

You're totally right... which is probably why the Big Guns like Doctor Doom, Galactus and Red Skull get so overused.

Might be why guys like Iron Man and Thor are only breaking through the mainstream now... a hero's only as good as their bad guys. Although it's only in recent years that Geoff Johns has made Green Lantern's and Flash's Rogues into formidable threats.

Brubaker seems to be doing a good job at making over various Captain America bad guys in recent years... including Crossbones and the Skull's daughter. Cap does have MODOK, Zemo, Hydra, Aim, and Strucker to fight as well. Nazis seem to have stood the test of time as bad guys, and Hydra and Aim seem to fair well as contemporary terrorist analogues.

Recently Matt Fraction introduced Stane's son as a new bad guy for Iron Man to fight, we'll have to see if he sticks as a long term threat. Hammer's wife and daughter have also emerged as well.

Perhaps with Green Lantern...GL's always had some decent foes but everything usually boils down to Sinestro, Sinestro, Sinestro. So in that aspect, Johns has upped the ante and has created a rich mythology for GL and the Corps...but Sinestro is STILL in the mix

As for the Flash's Rogues, I disagree... They were pretty much mainstays from the get-go. I mean you've got Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Abra Kadabra, Professor Zoom, Weather Wizard, Grodd, The Top, Heatwave, Trickster, Pied Piper, etc. In fact, Flash's Rogues Gallery most often places a decent third, right behind Batman and Spider-Man's. Now granted they aren't "A-listers" in the DCU persay, where Weather Wizard is taking on Batman (although this has been done before)...But in the "Flash Universe" they're all pretty top-notch.

Yeah, until Crisis retired Barry, the Rouges were always interesting. Johns has added depth with some of them, but the Rouges are classic villains. I would consider Grodd, Zoom and Weather Wizard Grade A threats or at least with that potential based on their powers.

But the Joker is considered one of the best villains in comics, but he's not a universe-shaking threat to heroes like Superman, GL, or Flash. Sure he could do some damage to them — hurting loved ones like in Kingdom Come — but once one of them decided to capture him, it would be relatively easy for them.

But he is the perfect adversary for Batman, mainly because of the constraints Batman puts on himself.

I see many of Flash's foes as annoyances to him more than true threats. Once he's able to turn his attention to them, he's not overmatched in the power department. Really, for guys like Cold, Trickster even Mirror Master and Abra Kadabra, it's their persistence that makes them dangerous.
