After reading this thread with me my wife is starting to think collecting comics should be some type of psychological disorder.

I am fine with that if it means I can get disability over the diagnosis; after all, that's more money for comics.

    Is this a serious question?
I have no idea how many I have but I have at least 60 small boxes last time bothered checking. That doesnt count the ones in drawers and piles and the ones in my other closet that I haven't read yet.

As long as you guys have Batman and Jonah Hex you'll be around for ever!!!
At least in my house anyways!!!
Just a reminder 11 more days until my favorite anti-hero hits the screen...

    Hmmmm....

I got a bunch, but never stopped to count. I don't collect; I read, so I pick up whatever I want to read and if it's not very good I get rid of it.

i had to limit my collecting

when i realized it would be endless, i sold off or trading anything that wasn't hulk, spiderman, avengers, fantastic four or tales of suspense. for hulk i only collect the first 6, spiderman up to #51, avengers up to #25, tales of suspense ends at #100 so that was easy, and FF only 12 cent copies. now i just go for the best quality i can afford within those brackets......i can now see light at the end of the tunnel! and to satisfy the collecting bug when i complete those i'll just upgrade copies

I know my Old Lady would disagree ..., however I have not reached this point to even think about the Question seriously.

the year before I got married(1996) I stopped collecting and gave about six long boxes away, to my brother, because I had no room in our little apartment. then a few years later I sold 3-4 boxes worth at a tag sale for .50 each because my wife was nagging me to get them out of every closet in the house.

I started buying again 2-3 years ago, because I wanted to read them. I don't collect per se, but do enjoy reading the stories and then of course I keep them because I bought them and they are mine dammit. I have may 8 boxes at this point. my real collecting love it toys

I probably have about a 1000 Batman and Bat related books alone. My girlfriend has been urging me to take inventory and reorganize. Its just such a huge task.

I have between 5000-6000, I believe. What I've done in the last few years is take a look at what I like to slow the growth. A big help has been that I don't keep the majority of my new comics anymore. Just Amazing Spider-man and select fews titles I feel I'll want to read gain someday. I give the rest to my best friend when I'm done reading them. I know many of my boxes have comics that will never get a second look again so why add more? I also have all my long boxes stacked up so only the top row is accessible. Takes up much less space. The stuff I always go back is mostly the 70's & 80's (in addition to my huge Amazing Spidey run) so that is mostly what I keep up top and accessible. I've also segregated specific-smaller run titles into short boxes and cater most of my back issue buying to those titles.

I like the way you think. My next shipment of books showed up today and I still don't feel overwhelmed; out of space, but not overwhelmed.
