The sad story of Thundercats Writer Steve Perry

I'd been following the story of his plea for aid in his time of difficult financial crisis, but things have definitely turned out quite horrific.

    SRBissette.com - Steve Perry; Part 1

Thundercats writer and co-creator of comics such as the Avatar-influencing Timespirits, Steve Perry, is at the centre of an investigation in Zephyrhills, Florida. Parts of a human body have been found and Perry’s two flatmates arrested and charged on other charges.

Perry’s van was found abandoned, foul smelling with a human arm near by, although an official identification has not been released as yet.

          Ah...Sunny Florida.

Come for Disney World, stay for the murders.

Seriously, Florida is freakin' nasty when it comes to murders. I hate watching our 6PM news. It's aways some child's gone missing or eaten by a pitybull, an old lady's been raped, or a body found.

That is just incredibly horrible. I seem to recall hearing the name, but I'm not familiar with his work (other than watching Thundercats as a kid).

With what's already been found, this story cannot have a happy ending.

Timespirits was such an original concept for the 80's.

Many have cited this issue as having heavily influenced James Cameron's Avatar.

Wow, at first glance, that definitely looks like Cameron "borrowed" his tribe from them. On the other hand, the blue chick above looks like a blue version of Marvel's Tigra, complete with the same teeth belt. So maybe it's just one of those natural coincidences.

The nudity on the front cover is a bit surprising as well.

But I haven't read the interior, so maybe the connections go beyond the visual of a blue, striped naked lady in the jungle.

No, that's the Steve Perry who yells a lot when he sings.

This is terrible! I used to love watching Thundercats as a kid! It had some of the best writing out there.

How can people do things like this to each other? It's awful.

The eighties! When comic book specialty stores were the wild west, certain distribution channels were accustomed to racier underground comix from the 70's and you had comics like this spinning out of the Epic Magazine published by Marvel that often got racked on the top shelf of the convenience store along with Heavy Metal and Playboy.

Free of the comics code in the direct market, along with really high production values (full bleed color on glossy paper) and the price tag to match. Archie Goodwin and co were making sure there were no mistaking the fact that they were aiming for an adult audience. Booblage aplenty in most of the earliest Epic releases such as Six From Sirius, Black Dragon, B'ozz Chronicles, Coyote, Void Indigo, Sisterhood of Steel, etc.

Not to be confused with Steve Perry the novelist as well.
