We all know there are some comics that would leave you hanging by your fingernails until the following month, and some that just had a nice tidy ending and you'd have a whole new adventure next month. So which do you like better? Which did you read more of as a kid? And is your preference different now that you're an adult?

To be continued or wrapped up ending: Which type of comic book do you prefer?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Tags: None -
I prefer a wrapped up ending, but I don't mind a short lived series. I hate it when the story drags on over several issues and I really hate it when it's dragged on over several series as well
I gave up on new comics because of that"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan Poe -
one or two issue stories. This one big event after another has gotten really stale. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I think the Superman titles from the early 90's were a nice compromise. (right before the Death of Superman storyline)
The main story was a "done in one" but the subplots extended over the course of 6 months to a year.
So you got a tidy ending in your main story, and a little bit of drama going into the next issue. Kept you coming back.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Loved the late 80s/early 90s Superman books. Even when they did stunts like "Time and Time Again", each issue was still a story onto itself, which seems to be a lost artform.
I remember the Bat-office putting a moritoriam on multi-part stories for a while in the late 90s, post Knightfall, etc. It didn't last, but it was nice for awhile!

I'm all down for a done-in-one but they seem to not know HOW to do that anymore...I think 3 issues tops for an arc...this 6+ issue stuff in addition to cross-ins, cross-outs and cross-overs is getting old and is a strain on the wallet if you try and "collect 'em all" sometimes. And very few of them are actually essential to the main storyline. Give me a good ol' Bob Haney/Jim Aparo Batman Brave and the Bold adventure ANYDAY of the week...Think OUTSIDE the Box! Same for me too. I also really enjoyed the way the early 90s Super titles were handled, too. It's all good!Comment

I'd love to see a run of one-issue stories. Or even two-parters. I'm really tired of the endless events right now.Comment

I can totally do with out the EVENTS and crossovers, however... i don't mind story arcs that last 4-6 issues as long as it's in 1 title. But after you do something like that you must do 1 one issue story followed by a another 1 or 2 issue story right after. don't burns us out with mega storylines."Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of DoomComment

I don't mind 4 parts (like Death in the Family) where something really important happens during the story and you can look back on it years later as something that stuck out. Now, I have a hard time remembering what part they're on with any given story.
I tire of the huge "epic" stories that span multiple titles that I can't afford or keep track of.Comment
