Aquaman TV pilot - not too bad

With all the talk about Arthur returning and possible new series, I watched the TV pilot a few minutes ago. It didn't suck nearly as bad as I feared. They jumbled up the origin a bit, well a lot, but it works for a series. They set up a lot of stuff that would have been in the series had it been picked up. THe dude playing Arthur was a dead on lookalike, and the special effects were actually pretty darn good. Plus it had VIng Rhames in it. THis must have been prior to Kojak, a much better choice for a series He never got a super suit, though. He just rolled around in a cut-off t-shirt.

Now I have to watch the Justice League pilot. I already know how bad that one is, I'm just looking for comedic value.

FYI - Aquaman (Justin Hartley) is now Green Arrow on Smallville. Much better actor than the him-bo they had for the Aquaman character on Smallville. It could have been cool, and Millar and Gough obviously like him enough to give him a near co-starring role on Smallville. Ving Rhames and Lou Diamond Phillips in supporting roles means they really gave it a shot, cast wise at least.

While I did enjoy the pilot, I'm kind of glad they never made it to series. I can't see them being able to sustain 20 plus episodes a year based on fighting water-themed adversaries. The freak of the week years of Smallville were limiting enough. Can't imagine how many variations on underwater menaces there really are.

I'm reminded of when Harvey Kurtzman took the **** out of Seahunt in his Goodman Beaver spoof. All the crime that Lloyd Bridges fought underwater was actually all in his head.

I liked the Aquaman pilot as well(I own it)...but think he makes a great Green Arrow. My hope is that when Smallville ends...he'll get his own GA TV Series.

I LOVE Aquaman so I wanted more for this series. I didn't hate the pilot but it could have been so much better. Make hopes were too high.

I don't think he was cast well as AM but Hartley is exactly right for a young GA!

I too hope to see him in a solo or JLA series soon.

I liked the Pilot. it is actually on the Bluray of the newest Justice League movie. I thought it played really well for a TV series premise....plus you know there would have been a lot of bikini clad beauties every week.

Mercy Reef was a cool pilot, I liked it, but he's a lot better as Green Arrow!

we've seen him a lot more as Green Arrow so the character has been developed. I think had Aquaman been picked up as a series he would have really grown into the character and fleshed things out. not saying I don't like Hartley as GA, just that I would have liked to see AM

I finally saw the pilot for Aquaman myself and I loved it. That was truly a crying shame the show didn't get picked up. Mercy Reef was a great story and I enjoyed the cast. I especially loved seeing Arthur swim at super speed underwater. It just goes to show that whether it's a movie or a TV series, the technology to do a live action Aquaman is finally here.
                  Cheers.
