Dick Grayson Robin Tunic Question ?.

I was sitting here Playing with my .., errr Posing , yeah that's right Posing ,.. my 13inch Robin from DC Direct. I Noticed when they made his Tunic , they have the Green shirt, attatch to the Green Undies, then a Red Tunic over the Green. Is that the Way the Costume is really suppost to be designed , instead of the Sewn on Green Sleeves, and Green Undies seperate ? Or did DC Direct, just go a different route with the suit, because it may have been easier ?

    Just kinda Curious.

Alex Ross does it as tow pieces, too. Seems like the DCDirect 12 I mean 13 inch figures are using his art as model sheets for the costumes.

^^^ They sorta really do, for the Most Part.
Certain figures really scream his work, and then now ofcourse, they have figures that are gonna be really based off of his stuff.

Interesting stuff with Robin ..., it was just something I really didn't pay close attention 2, but thought it was the case. For the Most part, the DC 13incher costumes, are pretty right on with character likeness.

Those Perez Titans issues were exactly what I was thinking when I read the question....I think that issue above shows Dick Grayson taking off the mask and then the red vest as he discards his Robin identity

There's also a Titans issue were Dick is working out in a green unitard and then puts the red vest over it. I always liked that idea. Heck, he might have had some body armor under the vest.

Speaking of Alex Ross, he had a very cool concept for a Robin costume in that new art book of his that is out. The green unitard has long legs and is made of chain mail with the red vest over it. The yellow cape has black lining and a hood that looks sort of like a bird head in silhouette.

A very cool design and makes a lot more sense for a kid to be running around fighting crime in.

I'll get a pic if I can find it later, but even in the Star-Spangled Comics(Golden Age, probably early to mid-Forties) that featured Robin stories, they showed him putting on a red sleeveless tunic over a green leotard.

Here's 3 shots of Ross' redesign of Robin for All-Star Batman. Evidently, Jim Lee didn't like it or DC didn't want to pay for it or whatever.

But to me, it's the best looking Robin suit I've seen. The book said Ross used Robin Hood as an influence, which is where the character got his name, according to Jerry Robinson, who created the character with Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Errol Flynn's Adventures of Robin Hood debuted in 1939 and Robin first saw print in 1940.

                        ^^^
It's actually not too far off from Damian's Robin Costume.

It would have been cool if they made his hood more beak-like as the Ross design.

It looks like the all-green color scheme for the cape/hood works much better than the yellow/black.

The book cover suggests it was trunks, but not an actual representation of the costume they actually used.

That Ross redesign is neat, a little too Hourman-y, but cool.
