I'll hitting up the Portland shops today. The comic shops in Seattle are small and over priced. Not to mention buying other stuff in Portland is TAX FREE!! Woohoo..

We just got back from our trip into town for the Comic party. One of the local shops had a ton of artists/writers signing (tho I am so far out of the loop, I did not really recognize them). Also had a bunch of folks in costume, which was fun as my son and daughter busted out their WW and Bats outfits.

One minor disappointment; we were hoping to find a copy of the first Tiny Titans compilation, but the shop we went to did not have any in stock. :( Rats. Maybe next town trip, we will try again.

What did you guys pick up?

I got Thor/Iron Man, War the the Supermen, Mouse Guard/Fraggle Rock and the DC Comics Kids Sampler. While I do understand why they made Thor/Iron Man and the DC Kids samper smaller dimensions to cut down on costs, I am still baffled why the need to skimp like that... at the end of the day don't you want to give your potential new readers a fuller experience by giving them a regular sized comic?

the smaller sized books didn't really faze me.
We missed the mouse guard/fraggle one tho. That sounds like a gooder.
Kids were most into the Shrek/madagascar Penguins book.
I rather liked the Green Hornet teaser, and the DC kids sampler was awesome. Once again, Art and Co are AWESOME!!

Thor/IM sort of read OK, but the art was lousy. Is that Romitas kid doing that?

The shop we went to was also passing out power rings from the recent GL thing. My daughter nabbed a pinkish one (star sapphires, I think) and my son was all over the black ring of the baddies. Go figure.

My best friend and I got lucky - the comic shop owner is a friend and he gave us each free copies of the Sideshow Collectibles catalog (Vol.11 )!

I picked up the DC Kids sampler, Iron Man and Thor, Impact University Vol. 2, and The Avengers. Forgot to ask about the HeroClix War Machine, though.

No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

Most stores seem to be limiting the amount you can snag. We decided since there are no local stores to make a day of it and head out to Tampa.

We drove about 177 miles to Emerald City and snagged Fraggle Rock/Mouse Guard, War of the Supermen#0, Doctor Solar/Mangus Robot Fighter and my guilty pleasure, Love and Capes.

Of course I am a big proponent of supporting comic shops that participate in Free Comic Book Day by actually BUYING stuff while there taking their free swag... so it's no surprise we picked this shop... they carry vintage toys at reasonable prices.

Snagged a complete minty loose Neptunian, loose Comic Action Heroes first release Wonder Woman (with the CAH Superman thrown in for good measure), a couple of Big Jims and a few comics to boot.

They have a complete Mission to Gamma VI fro $160, but I had to pass. No room to display it.

Well the freebies I got were Archie's Summer Splash, Iron Man/Thor, and Iron Man/Nova. And I also got 2 80 pg. reprints of classic DC Secret Origins. There was one woman dressed as a Super Hero (I think it was Black Canary), and a Spidey Statue. I also saw the Retro Action Heroes and Star Trek EMCEs. I wish it was the wave I wanted, but I'm not going to buy them for the sake of buying them, when I don't want those particular figures. (I'm still holding out for Wonder Woman and Cat Woman). I didn't see anyone else buying them, and that was kinda sad. There didn't seem to be any Mego enthusiasts there. I did go to Dr. Comics & Mr. Games, but Collectible Corner closed down due to the recession.

wanted to share a pic of my krazies on the book day a couple of weeks ago. My little buddy batman (mite?) seems to be having a bit of a belt malfunction. good times.

and here is the grand result of handing out free reading material to kids. They get to read. awesome!!

btw: Art - that ad for the shop you were signing at was REALLY great. I wish we were near there as Em and Cip would have flipped if they could've gotten a pic with the man behind the Titans. Is 'Kabunny!!!' one of your lines? That one never gets old around here.
