Should Superman be married to Lois?

Maybe because it's been so long since they HAVEN'T been married, but I find the separate Lois and Clark dynamic kind of refreshing again in Smallville, All Star Superman, Superman Secret Origin, the Superman Confidential Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale story, and that Mark Waid "Year 1" series from a while back.

Which do you prefer? Lois' continual blindspot about mild mannered Clark Kent, or their current ongoing adventures as a married couple?

      Absolutely. Married is perfect.

The writers can concentrate on other things outside of how Clark will maintain his secret. THat's just another obstacle that isn't needed. Plus, it really puts Lois in a negative light if she hadn't figured it out. The Morrison All-Star Supes/Lois relationship was done pretty well, but I don't think it works long-term or with mainstream continuity.

I think Superman has weathered the marriage better than Spidey did.

As bad a cop out as Peter and Mary Jane's deal with the devil was, Spider-man is a much more fun character as an unmarried guy.

But, Superman has not suffered as much. Lois has always been used as a plot device to get at Superman, and she still functions in that way.

I wouldn't mind an ongoing series set during Superman's formative years as a super hero, then you could have the marriage and the non-married Superman. I guess that's kind of what we will be getting with Superman Earth One.

I would like to see a sub-plot at some point where a popparatzie gets a photo of Superman and Lois kissing and Cat Grant makes a big scandal out of it.

If DC wanted to do a romance or soap opera series, Lois and Clark wouldn't be a bad idea, particularly if they wanted to pick the idea back up that Lex and Lois had something going on a one time. It could be a romance version of Gotham Central. You could use the Daily Planet staff, but have very little Superman if any in it. Just let Clark be Clark. And after working in a newsroom for 20 years, the place can be very steamy. A lot of late nights on the job with a good bit of drinking and partying once the paper's to bed. Reporters' marriages are notorious for going bad, from my observations.

I like them as married. It gives some panels where Clark can be himself; not Superman or lying about not being Superman.

They dealt with that in last week's episode of Smallville as well, where Clark talked about his "control" when being intimate with Lois.

I would love to see a Lois and Clark series, just having seen the hint of Romance between them in Superman Secret Origin and recently Smaillville.

I really enjoyed the Mary Jane/Spiderman Loves Mary Jane series. Lois is such a strong character, and was the titular star of her book for so long, I don't see why we can't have a series that focuses on their Journalism careers with the Superman thing as a backdrop. The two issue Lois Lane series from the eighties was really good and shows what a strong character she could be, even before the Byrne reboot.

With a series like this, a writer could do Lou Grant-type stories — basically one-offs of actual news stories. You could get into Metropolis politics, crime and corruption through the point of view of a reporter. Human interest stories, really whatever.

I've always thought doing a full issue of Lois interviewing Superman would be a cool way to fill in some blanks on Superman. While it sounds like a talking heads issue, the action could be scenes that he's describing to Lois.

                  Just a thought.

Inter-species marriages are looked down upon here on Earth. Superman isn't a human, he's an alien. We might as well discuss Lois marrying Krypto...

I am more of a Silver Age Superman & Lois plot device fan. Until somebody in the comic sees through Superman's disguise -- that he puts on a pair of Clark Kent glasses -- Supes and Miss Lane should stay chronically dating.

I'm a big fan of suspension of disbelief, why muddy the waters with realism?

They did that back in the day, with the "Superman Family" comic. One of the continuing stories was the "future" version wher ethey were married. (Which is probably "Earth whatever" in the official timeline.) It's a decent way of having your cake and eating it too; but nowadays there seems to be too much effort to stay on license to split the continuity like that.

All I can say is... I hated Lois Lane growing up.

Read enough Silver Age Lois stories and you'll hate her too.

She is the ultimate woman for a Woman-Hater.

She exists to nag Superman. She's sneaky, annoying, and an all around pain in the Kryponite rocks.

"Oh, I'm going to discover your secret identity and make you marry me!"

That's right... blackmail Superman into marriage. It's the ultimate little boy's idea of what dealing with the opposite sex must be like.

Granted, after Julie took over as editor things softened a bit, but she still carried that stigma of the old sneaky Lois.

Why Superman even looked her way boggles the mind!

I know Crisis gets a bad rap in Superman circles, but frankly it did a bit of good. It gave us a tough as nails reporter Lois (oddly enough, similar to the one on Smallville, and earlier on Lois and Clark) who didn't care about finding out about Superman's secret ID. Sure she was starstruck, but it didn't take over her life. She didn't exist as "Superman's Girlfriend: Lois Lane"... she was, more human.

The marriage was a natural progression.

Given the right writer, it can make for great stories as well. I mean, Lois is now his co-conspirator... instead of his enemy. Seriously, with all the crap that lands in Metropolis, should Superman have to worry about a nosey reporter trying to blackmail him into a loveless marriage?

All joking aside, in a world where marriages don't last, and the majority of the kids (or adults for that matter) reading these stories come from broken homes, why not have the ultimate good guy, the epitomy of what is noble about the human race, why not have this one guy, the standard bearer, have a loving family, a healthy marriage, and a postive outlook on life?

It definitely works. The old Lois/Clark/Superman triangle was beaten to death in the comics. It makes Lois a more interesting, smarter character. You don't have to say "You dolt, can't you see he's Superman!!!" over and over in your head.

Peter and MJ worked when the writer worked at it. David Michiline did a great job with them. They weren't a natural couple like Lois and Clark, and the whole marriage thing seemed rushed, but it worked, until the mindset came about that it didn't.
