    New Green Arrow Series

I may be totally off base, but with the tie-in between Brightest Day and the new Green Arrow series, could this Green Arrow be a resurrected Green Arrow who died in the helicopter explosion in the title before Connor took over the role?

The Green Arrow that's running around now was brought back to life younger than he was when he died if I remember correctly from the Kevin Smith series.

Am I grasping at straws or could the Green Arrow depicted on the cover be that older version brought back by virtue of the White Lantern resurrections?

I'm probably thinking too hard or possibly not hard enough, but it does say in the solicits "who carries the heavy bow of the Emerald Archer."

I hope I'm off base. The idea's too silly, even for a comic book.

Whatever it is ... Obviously DC Seems to need a new #1 for the character with possible change of direction after #32 ...

I read the Kevin Smith one and never took it as him coming back younger. If you are right, tho, it would be one of the more contrived bits of the whole Blackest Night "event".

The real question for me is can Green Arrow even carry his own series anymore...seems like LOTS of "new directions" and relaunches since Kevin Smith revived him. Another example of DC not knowing what to do with the character....

I think DC just ignored the fact that Grell made him older than the rest of the DCU. They kind of did that with Hal too, in Rebirth, explaining his aging as premature graying thanks to Parallax.

Interesting theory though. It stunned me to see a new GA series announced so soon after all they've done to the character, and where they seem to be headed (Supermax).

Any chance that Conner Hawke is gonna pick up the mantle (again)?

I haven't read those issues since they came out and don't have the trade, but I distinctly remember something about him coming back at a younger age. I want to say it was addressed when he was talking to the Hal Jordan version of Specter in the afterlife. I honestly never cared having Ollie tied to the supernatural. Just didn't seem to fit. But, how else do you raise the dead? Plus it returned Ollie, who is a fun character, so I really only cared about the end result.

Kinda of gross that Dinah has been sleeping with a zombie some sort all these years. "I Married a Zombie Archer," sound like a bad B-movie

I thought they were headed toward Supermax, as well, but now I don't know. Star City is supposed to be the key city in Brightest Day and according to the solicits of GA No. 1 there is going to be a Green Arrow running around there.

The cover looks like Ollie, but who knows it could be Connor. Dick Grayson is Batman right now. Heck, the character's right arm isn't showing in the solicits. It could be Arsenal with a dye job. I doubt it, though.

With the cost of comics today and the market the way it is, I don't see Ollie as a lead character of a series. Again, I think he's a great character, but is more of supporting character than a lead guy.

He needs a straight man or group. I believe the character's had his best moments either teamed with GL or as part of the Justice League.

If I were writing the JLA, he would be the first character I would want because he creates automatic tension and despite the fact all he does is shoot arrows, he'll argue toe to toe with Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Hal, Flash or whomever, no matter how powerful he is if he believes he's right.

But other than having a pretty cool origin — ripped off from Robinson Curusoe — and maybe Longbow Hunters, I can't think of a great solo Green Arrow story.

There has been good and great characterization in his books at times, but no stories are arcs that really stand out to me.

But, then again, I'm not huge fan of he character and the same point can be made about many B and C list DC characters.

Knowing Didio's penchant for recycling everyone else's ideas from the 80s & 90s as "new events", I'm thinking that we are going to see some sort of return to the Mike Grell Urban Hunter version of GA.

In the Kevin Smith series where Ollie was brought back to life, he returned to life at the age he was at the end of the hard-traveling heroes arc where he went around the country with Hal Jordan. He returned basically 10 years younger than he was when he died. His memory was 10 years behind, too, When he first returned Ollie did not have a soul. He was what was called a hollow. The old man who resurrected Ollie was going to switch his soul into Ollie's hollow body. Eventually, Ollie got his soul back ruining that guys plans. With is soul, Ollie's memories returned but his body was still younger. All of this was explained in issues 3 and 4 of Smith's run.

With all that said, I'm guessing the Ollie that is currently hunting the Executioner or Electrocutioner will end up dying, and the White Lantern will resurrect the atomized version of Green Arrow that exploded in helicopter right before Conner took over as Green Arrow. This would explain the hoodie and his older look on the cover of the upcoming GA No. 1.

Crazy and convoluted for sure, but that's how comics roll these days. Again, I may be reading more into this new GA series (that is a Brightest Day tie in) than is there.

Ah, now I remember. That first arc was actually quite good, but man, Smith went through some nutty stuff to bring Ollie back. Stanely and His Monster?!? Shame on DC for making Chuck Dixon blow Ollie up. I mean, why not a more ambiguous death if they wanted to take Ollie off stage for a bit?

Your theory sounds like a good sound one...which means they probably won't use it.

^^ Seriously, DC and Marvel are soo effed up, it'd be nice to junk everything and shift back to 1964.
