Batman : Brave & the Bold comic book Silver Age coolness- just look who's back!

I love the Brave & the Bold TV cartoon, but I also like the DC Comic book as well. I think it flies under the radar of most readers because it's part of the DC Kids line, but for us Silver age fans, there's just loads of goodness hidden in here. For all the death & mayhem in the DCU proper, there's some old-time fun here for sure.

One of the early issues had Batman turned into a baby by Felix Faust and he defeated them with the help of Sugar & Spike. In the current issue (#15), he travels back to the 1960s to fight The Mad Mod...and just look at who's along to team-up:

SUPER-HIP & BROTHER POWER, THE GEEK!

In case you're not familar, Super-Hip was a 1960s mod era hero who only appeared in issues of Bob Hope! I was just blown away, I figured Super-Hip was truly gone & forgotten!

I loved the Mad Mod appearance in the Teen Titans cartoon. Perfectly voiced by Malcolm McDowell!

          HAW!

Super-Hip! But.... shouldn't Brother Power be trapped in a rocket at this time?

Sheesh, DC; get the continuity right!

The original Brave and the bold was always in continuty only with itself (sometimes explained as Earth B & B) so in that respect this is not an issue with the new series or new comic

Awwww..... does that mean they're NOT part of the main continuity? ('Cos I could really use a Super-Hip EMCE figure....)

Why do all the DC books that "get it" have to have such unappealing art? I don't like the cartoony approach. The only book that worked for me on was the Plastic Man series from a few years back.

Probably because the comic "Batman:The Brave and the Bold" is based on the CARTOON "Batman: The Brave and the Bold"....

Really, is it THAT hard to figure that out?

I will say the artwork in Batman:B&B isn't up to the old standards of the original Batman Adventures comic though. I miss the late Mike Parobeck, and Ty Templeton and Rick Burchett. My son brought the first TPB from the series home from the library, and it's hit and miss. Some of the artists don't seem to have ever watched the show, or have access to the model sheets.

The stories are a lot of fun however!

                          No, wise-acre. It's not.
I KNOW it's based on the cartoon.
The point I was trying to get across was THOSE are the books that seem to take the old stuff and respect it and I don't like the cartoony look. For that matter I don't like the current animation from almost ANYTHING put out today anyway.

BK: hope you got a good laugh at my expense. Does it make you feel like a big boy of 12?

                            >THOSE are the books that seem to take the old stuff and respect it and I don't like the cartoony look.

Hmmmm.... I think this is a trickier issue than it would first seem. A lot of these books are providing a really stripped down version of the characters; kid friendly and not needing a PHD in "Batman" to follow. Not too far removed from the regualr versions, but I think they're stripped down enough that the stories wouldn't work so good with more detailed art. The more "realistic" you make a character the more the subconscious mind of the reader expects them to act like real people. Try picturing some of the dialogue coming from more realistic looking characters. It'd be weird.

Now, I could see using the simpler designs but rendering them with more depth and texture. That would give you the best of both worlds. Hell; it works for the Japanese.

I love the art on the series itself but find the comic's art hit or miss.

My son and I never missed an issue of JLU because it was consistantly well done (OK he didn't care as much as I did) but we don't have BnB in our pull file.
