I've picked up a couple of issues recently...
At one time, very very long ago, it was all about Batman, Casper and Archie comics for me. Sometimes I miss that simplicity.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging! -
I used to have an Archie digest collection that was unbelievable. I gave it all away to some high school girlfriend.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Haven't seen the new stuff, but I loved Archie as a kid, one of the very few comics I ever had more than one of.
About a year ago I was talking to my Mum about comics and she said she used to love reading Archie in the 50's. I was totally blown away, I never had any clue that she had any idea what comics were let alone had read them! Now I know where my pop culture fetish comes from :-)Toltoys Kid Vintage Australian Toys and Ice CreamsComment

The only more recent ones I read a few years back was Cheryl Blossom. But I do have a mad collection of classic Archie, including the books Best Of The 70s (intro by Shirley Jones), Christmas Collection, Love Triangle and The Best Of Josie & The Pussycats. I always wondered why they called the guy Alan M. in the comics, and just Alan on the show."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

I occasionally pickup a new issue. I do collect the Josie comics and the Christmas issues. And the early Little Archie stuff by Bob Bolling is great. And if you can ever track it down, find issues of Cosmo the Merry Martian- what a cool trippy book!
Alan M. was created for the cartoon because they wanted a blonde male to fill the "Freddy" role and have a similar character to the Scooby-Doo crew which was big then for H-B. I think that the same voice actor was used as well. In the comics, they got rid of Albert, Josie's musician boyfriend and added Alan. Originally he had a rival band, but they changed that and made him more the average muscle guy as opposed to Alexander's rich snob.
Why his middle initial was only used in the comics though I can't say (Alan. M. Mayberry is his name)- maybe on TV it sounded too close to "L&M", a brand of cigarettes which were probably still being advertised on TV in the sixties?Comment

Yeah, I don't miss it save for some of the really early 70s stuff I had, they were the size of phone books.

A few years back I came upon a bunch of late 1970's Archie comics priced at 25¢ a piece. My Archie era was the 1960's but these were still pretty much the same artwork, and still very vintage looking.
They're in a dresser drawer out at the cottage, along with some doubles of GI Combat, Unknown Soldier, and other 1970's era comics. The same dresser where the various Board Games from the era are stored.
That's the best part of going to the cottage.90, Joe 90.... Great Shakes : Milk Chocolate -- Shaken, not Stirred.Comment
