Chris is the PERFECT choice to play Cap. He looks exactly like Steve Rogers...and he's young enough to play the idealistic youth who wants so badly to fight in the War, that he volunteers to join the Super Soldier program. Plus he can act.
Reb Brown has had some success in the corporate world and yeah he's 61. I always thought he was too big to play Cap.
I like Chris Evans, I don't think he's a slam dunk but he beats Channing Tatum, John Kransinski and (ugh) Dane Cook in the "I would believe him as Captain America" department.
This is a tough part to cast. You need a guy who can look wimpy before the treatment and then muscular afterward. There's not too many guys out there built like Cap that can act.
In the age of CGI, this isn't a consideration. The wimpy can be an effect, just like it was for Tobey McGuire. Guy does have to be in good shape for the rest of the movie however.

One has to wonder if anyone tried to tell that to Christian Bale before he started prepping for the Machinist.
Although in retrospect, that would have been risking a profanity ridden diatribe involving whether or not Bale would walk into your house and open up your refrigerator and trash your food, 'cause y'know, he's a professional.
All I know is I kept wanting to send him cookie-grams and pizza extra cheese while watching that movie.
I'm not crazy about casting the same actor in more than one iconic comic book role. I remember the rumor years ago if Tim Burton had done Superman and casting Jack Nicholson as Lex Luthor. No way! He was the Joker.
In this sense, Chris Evans looks like he can pull it off as Captain America, but I still see him as the Human Torch. Personally, I liked both Fantastic Four movies, (except for the Galactus crap in the second one). But he was quite a character as Johnny Storm. That's going to be hard to forget.
Oh well, maybe he'll do fine. But if they ever make another FF movie or even a reboot of the franchise, I hope they recast the Human Torch.
Cheers.
I would hope that Marvel pictures would do all they can to get the rights back to properties like FF, Daredevil, even Spider-Man. They should do whatever it takes to get the rights back and fold the characters into this movie universe their creating.
As for Evans. I just hope he has the chops. In all honesty, I have more reservations about Joe Johnston then I do about Evans. Sure his movies look great. I just find them a bit passionless. Perhaps it's not fair for me to expect Johnston to show the same level of passion for the character that Jon Favreau has for Iron Man. I just fear that without that passion Johnston will make directorial choices to make the character/movie cool for the uninitiated rather then be true to the character.
Hollywood has Cast actors to play two different Heroes nothing new there.....
Buster Crabbe played Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers and played Tarzan
Kirk Alyn played Superman and Blackhawk
Tom Tyler played Captain Marvel and The Phantom
I have to wonder how he'd have any such obligations so long after
the fact especially since that version of the franchise seems to be at "fizzle level".
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
He's under contract for 3 movies. IF Fox does a reboot, I guess he's out with pay. If Fox doesn't reboot or do 3, the rights will expire eventually.
Hmmmmm. I should've known. "3" seems to be the magic number when
it comes to franchise contracts, eh?
Thanks for the catch up

the only way the contract could be an issue is if the production schedules were conflicting. In this case FF3 isn't even close to production yet so he should still be allowed to act in other films even if in a similiar genre
