    Jango Fett as Abin Sur

    www.hitfix.com/articles/2010-3-14-star-wars-jango-fett-will-play-key-role-in-green-lantern

Looks like the final parts are being cast. Looking forward to seeing the GL costume.

Should Hal wear a mask or not?

Since they are re-designing the costume, I'd say not.

Does this mean that Samuel L. Jackson will be chopping off his head with a lightsaber?

That's a neat little bit of casting there.

If they keep the origin close to the book he's got a pretty small role. I say mask him up for Jordan. I haven't seen any designs yet, but keep the mask regardless. I don't see it as anything bulky, more like skin tight or CGI. If they want to go the same path as the JLA TV pilot, then leave him maskless.

      Cool info, thanks for posting.

I had not heard of this till this morning. I was thinking about the film last weekend and wondering if maybe they might cast Wes Studi as Abin Sur, ( Wes Studi also appeared in the Superhero comedy Mystery Men),. This is a good choice too.

            Why is the mask crucial?

For a story point, preference or to adhere to the comics lore? I'd say the ring and lantern are crucial and the green, of course, but the mask?

In the comics most everyone who knows Hal very well knows he's Green Lantern, except for one of his brothers. It's not a big secret.

Not a big deal to me either way. I figure the producers won't go with the skin-tight leotard look but more of a body-armor type, similar to what was in the recent GL cartoon from last summer. If they aren't going to totally adhere to the comics design, why cover the star's face with a Lone Ranger mask?

I can go with that. Sounds like Taiki Waititi is playing Tom "Pieface" Kalmaku, doesn't it?

                  Mask.

The character, as far as I know has ALWAYS worn a mask. It is part of the character.

He should wear it because that's GL.

I am absolutely sick and tired of "realistic" sci fi and superheroes.

What's more realistic? Not hiding your identity ot letting everyone know who you are? I think the amswer is obvious.

If you can suspend your belief and buy little blue, old men handing a guy a ring that pretty much makes him omnipotent, you better be able to accept he'd wear a mask.

Gotta have the mask. They can do maskless for John and Guy if they show up later.

Oh and here's an out there choice for Guy: Sean William Scott. Think about it. No one plays a semi-likeable ****** better than Stiffler.

I'd like for them to Woody Harrelson to play Oliver Queen and do the hard traveling heroes movie with Ryan Reynolds. he'd need a wig, but i think he could nail Ollie's cantankerous attitude.

How about Matthew McConaughey as Barry Allen, Brad Pitt as Aquaman, Jessica Biel as Black Canary, Vin Diesel as Martian Manhunter, The Rock as Hawkman and Matthew Broderick as the Atom. Angelina Jolie as Wonder Woman, Catherine Zeta Jones as Zatanna. Matt Damon as Blue Beetle and Ben Affleck as Booster Gold.

Bale as Batman and Tom Welling as Superman — for the lack of anyone better.

Jason Bateman could be Maxwell Lord and Darksied could be CGI with James Earl Jones' as the voice. he's the voice of Dr. Doom in my head, too.

Like the Stiffler idea for Guy.

those casting choices would all work for me

GL definately needs the mask, it's part ofm the costume. It would be like have the Lone ragner not wear a mask. it's just part of the persona

in the comics run it was decades before Hal being GL was common knowledge among his family & friends. He hid it from carol into the 70's (except for when she was star saphire)
Being an early years story he would protect his identity to not be the freak on tv

I suspect toyroom's statment that the mask is crucial is as much of a plot device statement as it is a costume look. The domino masks used in the old JLA pilot were grossly bulky it made the actors look like they had misshapen heads. conversely the mask worn by the Comedian in watchment worked well
