I think dean cain is a good representation of the Byrne era Clark where the focus was on him and superman was the costume. in the earlier era Clark is the costume
Fleischer's superman with a stronger clark was a reflection of the time when Clark was becoming more manly (the war era made that happen) and that bleeds into the stronger Clark of George Reeves.
Chris reeves clark was more the 38-41 wimpy milquetoast clark (probably becuase the Puzzo or Mankiewitz weren't up on the 70's era clark who was a go getter just not physically - and 70's Clark was not a fainter)

I'll give you that one. Reeve's (Christopher) Clark was too wimpy but his Superman was iconic.
On the flip side, Reeves's (George) Clark was not wimpy enough. Was quite out of character with the comic Clark. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but if we're talking accurate representation then we gotta be honest about it.
Routh was basically "Hey, Reeve is dead. Who can we find that looks exactly like him to play Superman in this new movie?"
I still think Dean Cain is vastly underappreciated. He played a great Clark and Superman. I do think he might have been a tad too short for the role but I'm not aware of his stats.
Probably the best portrayal of Superman was the Fleischer cartoons of the 40's.
The truest to the comics were also the Filmation episodes from the 60's.

I gotta admit that I liked George Reeves better as Clark Kent, but Chris Reeve better as Superman.Leave a comment:

Which talentless superboy there were 2 in one short lived show the is debate is over who was worseAgreed 100 percent.
I say hire another unknown for the role. Surely somewhere on this earth is an actor around 30-ish, tall and built who can pull this off. Routh was a good Supes, but his performance will always be equated with Singer's syrupy melodramatic film regardless of his quality work. They need to break away from Reeves/Reeve worship and forget Smallville was ever made. Forget the name Richard Donner, Dean Cain and that talentless guy who played Superboy.
I welcome this film if they can do something new.

I for one do not look forward to a Byrne inspired film as it means another evil business man lex which really is basically inspired by the film hackman performance
I have been waiting for 30 years for Evil scientist lex and I am still waitingLeave a comment:

I wasn't seriously considering him. I just think he's the closest of any of the Supermen to George Reeves Superman.
I like Welling as Clark but for some reason I have a hard time picturing him in the tights.
Not sure how you can hate on Chris Reeve. He WAS Superman. He played him perfectly for the Superman of that era.

ummm, Dean Cain is second on my unfavorite Supermen right after Welling and right before wimpy Chris Reeve.Leave a comment:

Hmmmm....
Kinda troubling that they HAVE to throw Luthor into the mix. Again. That, and:
>Modern. Believable. FUN!"
The "believable" part worries me, 'cos it almost forshadows boggling executive changes. So; he's in tights, he's an alien that's similar to a human, he can lift the sun, and he flies.... but in a BELIEVABLE way?
