The cover for Dynamite Entertainment's May issue of Project Superpowers spin-off series (Black Terror #11) features a very Mego-like representation of the titular hero:
Surprised ALex Ross hasn't tried to get some of these characters done Mego style.
He's a pretty big megohead, isn't he? No wonder he did this cover.
And that gets me thinking - these guys are public domain, so that should mean that someone could commercially release them as megos, so long as they didn't appropriate someone's trademarked take on the character, right?
As long as someone based the figures on the original 30s-40s Golden Age looks, these guys are fair game. They could make their own unique alterations, but couldn't copy someone else's. The Cast-A-Way Black Terror was based on AC's books. I'd love to see Mego figures of the Golden Age versions of Black Terror, Daredevil, Green Lama, Fighting Yank, etc.
Looks like someone made this custom (using the Commander X head?) and then drew the cover. This would be a fairly straightforward custom using Doc mego parts, some paint and a little creative sewing. Even has the Doc Doom style cape.
That one is based on AC Comics' version. The Fighting Yank figure was an AC original character with no connection to the Golden Age character aside from the name. I'd like to see figures of the actual GA heroes. And a giant Claw figure for them to fight.
