Help me ID a DC Treasury Edition comic.

When I was a kid, I only ever read/had one single Treasury Edition comic.

It was a Justice Leage book, and I remember very little about the story except that it featured Adam Strange, and everyone was running around in their 'Astral Form', which was depicted as colorless dotted outlines. Pretty sure Martian Manhunter was in it too. At one point, The Atom's weight/mass/density somehow got increased to the point that he could barely move and he was stuck lying on the floor shrunk and paralyzed, but he was able with great effort to remove his costume which was made from 'fibers from a white dwarf star'. Once he did that he reverted to normal size/weight/density in a single panel, saying something like 'The pain, oh god the pain -- IT'S RIPPING ME TO PIECES!'

That's all I got. Sound familiar to anyone? Is my memory right that this was a Treasury edition?

      ^^^ That's just a back cover from a Treasury.

But the front cover is the same pic (more or less) with the JLA instead of JSA. I don't own that one, but I bet it's it. As far as I know, there were only two JLA-centered treasuries. The one pictured and the Super Friends issue, which reprinted old JLA stories with an Alex Toth SF framing sequence. And it's not that one.

I though at first it was JLA issues #138 & 139 had Ghostly JLA members & guest-starred Adam Strange. Not Treasuries though, and the Atom wasn't one of the ghosts.

But that JLA Treasury (#c-46) does reprint an Adam Strange guest-starring story from JLA #24. From GCD:

Characters:Aquaman; The Atom; Batman; The Flash; Green Arrow; Green Lantern; Martian Manhunter; Superman; Wonder Woman; Adam Strange (guest star); Kanjar Ro (villain)Synopsis:Kanjar Ro gains the ability to split off an aural form of himself and draw off aural forms of the JLA. He leaves his own aural form in his place in jail and uses the aural JLAers to lure their physical forms into traps. Adam Strange learns Kanjar Ro's plot and helps the JLA defeat him.

This sounds like it! I'll have to flip through one next time I see it to verify. I've been wondering this for years.

I have this treasury....everything matches up EXCEPT the Atom scene and dialogue described in the 1st post. In addition, the JLA are only depicted in outline form on the splash page (although Adam Strange appears that way throughout the story when in his astral form)....So I'm baffled. Maybe your memory is playing tricks on you.... or confusing it with another story.

It's funny, I looked over all your Treasuries (or was it Supers, or Megoapesnut's? Somebody had a set there) at the show specifically with this in mind, but didn't crack open a single one because none of the covers jogged my memory. I should've at least opened the ones with the Justice League on them to see the stories and verify.

I admit it's entirely possible the Atom scene is a separate memory. I have no idea where it could be from then. Maybe an old Brave and Bold issue... I know it's from my childhood comic reading experiece, which was sporadic. I never was able to get any monthly books of the racks, so I'd just grab them at random and never know how a lot of two parters resolved.

Sometimes at Comic Shows, I hunt down the part 2's I never saw to find out what the heck happened in the stories I remember.

Though even as a kid I wondered how you get fibers from a White Dwarf Star. Joanne's Fabrics don't carry that ********, that's for sure.

There were only two JLA treasuries anyway, The one above & the Super Friends one. Both of those reprinted early stories from the JLA book.

Ah, I was confused since I met a board member there whose shop is called 'The Toyroom.'

Sharp as a tack, I am.
