How many parents here let thier kids watch Dark Knight?

We complain about kids growing up too fast yet I was curious how many children you've let watch Dark Knight.

I wouldn't....sorry I set Rules. PG-13 means 13 and over. Childhood is short let Kids be Kids they'll be adults the Rest of their lives. Your Childhood should be magical and a joy not Drama and trauma.

Dark Knight is adult. There are plenty of other Batman alternatives....

      My son's seen it, but he's 13.

He's asked to see Watchmen but I've said no. I let him watch 300 but only when it was edited for TV on TBS.

On the other hand, my daughter (9) has been bugging us to let her see Twilight because "all her friends have seen it" but I don;t thingk a vampiric teen romance is appropriate for her.

I'm with you on making sure the stuff they watch is appropriate

Not a parent, but a teacher.

          And the answer is,

No, I wouldn't allow a child to see Dark Knight. The previews looked scary enough and the first time I saw them I had a 5 year old w/ me (we saw Meet Dave). I had to cover her eyes.

I was 10 when I saw A Nightmare on Elm Street. I think it all depends on the kid.

My dad wouldn't let me watch RoboCop till I was 14 or 15. He had seen it first. Actually he saw most movies first then decided if we could handle it. When I finally did see RoboCop, I understood why he made me wait.

My daughter is 10 going on 11. She is really mature for her age and has a vast knowledge of Marvel and DC characters. What was in Dark Knight was nothing she has not seen in my comic books.

Now if there was any type of sex in that movie I would definatley not allow her to watch it. That is the one thing I will not allow her to see (if it is in a movie).

I think a good writer can write a good movie without sex. Sex in movies is lame. If people want to see that then go rent a porno. They way over did that in the 80s with all sex filled action/movie dramas. I am so glad these days that a lot of writers and directors do not go that route anymore. You can have love and romance in a movie (without using deep blah..blah....pounding...whatever...)...strong "hinting" or ideas that give you the idea of what had happened between the characters. Most people are not dumb. They can figure it out.

The violence really isn't an issue. It is apart of reality. You also cannot turn on television (and the news) without seeing violence.

The Dark Knight movie was not a problem for me to allow my daughter to see.
Heck, she even watched the new Punisher movie. Didn't really phase her. I guess it really depends on the mentality of the child. Call me a bad parent or whatever. I know my kids.

Even my parents had the same morals. I remember being young and tagging along with my parents at a drive in theater to see Amityville Horror. Nowadays parents would gasp at that thought but it didn't do anything damaging to me.
I miss those old out door theaters.

                  >Nowadays parents would gasp at that thought

It’s weird; I saw “Alien” when it came out, and you’d think that would be weird, (Considering I was about 9 at the time) but it turns out a LOT of my co-workers saw it at that age.

                  >if there was any type of sex in that movie I would definatley not allow her to watch it.

Strange but true. Most folks have a MUCH higher tolerance for violence than sex, which is strange considering:

                  >The violence really isn't an issue. It is apart of reality.

There’s a really good George Carlin bit on this.

My folks were the same; sex bad, violence okay.

                  >I think it all depends on the kid.

I’d agree. Some kids wouldn’t be thrown by Dark Knight at all. Some kids cry during the Spongebob movie.

You me, and texas teach. Teachers in the house! Hey as teh joke goes it's GREAT birth control.

What I miss about sex in movies is when theres an adult drama like Children of a Lesser God, when showing nudity is a legitimate part of telling a love story. Movies like Role Models or Sex Trip on the other hand , thats just junk.

The new Punisher film really shocked me. I havent seen violence like that outside a zombie film. I watched the preview for the last Rambo film and he literraly turns a man into liquid with a jeep mounted machine gun! It just made me feel uneasy.

Robocop was my favorite movie for a long time. I finally got to see the X rated version an it wasnt so cool anymore. It was a terrible humanizing tragedy. Just a few extra minutes of film. ( and the final shot to the head on Peter Weller was VERY Matrix, ahead of it's time)

I hope for everyones sake Sex is more a part of your lives than violence.

I have never watched the news ( see Yellow Journalism)but I think it would be nice if the lead stories were things like " Couple makes wonderful love on thier silver anniversary" rather than a five year old finding Dads gun and having an accident with it.

I tell you from my travels abroad people ask me about America like its a disturbed distant relative. Theyre concerned. I was talking to a guy in Bali. The kids there play nothing but Soccer video games. This guy had some boys, he bought them a violent shooting game. Then they started beating each other up. He took the game and threw it in the street and broke it. Kids went back to normal. Indonesians arent wealthy people so that was quite a thing to do in my eyes, but not his.

I have an inkling this has to do with Batman, but since I have not seen it myself and may never, no.

I let my kids watch Dark Knight. you know what, they saw it once and have not cared to watch it again. Watchmen I would not allow, because of the sex scenes.
