Were there Crossgen books you enjoyed?

Despite being a spectacular failed experiment, Crossgen did suck in quite a stable of top tier talent.

Were there Crossgen books that you liked reading?

SOJOURN was my favorite, but RUSE was pretty close. Both had great art & story, I'm hoping Disney may do something with them at Marvel since they ought the properties when Crossgen folded.
Crossgen was a case of too much stuff way too fast, and the premise that all these things happened on different worlds hurt it somewhat I think. For example, in Ruse there were occasionally flying reptiles & other nonsense, which clearly did not need to exist in that Victorian setting. Then they seemed intent on having a title in EVERY genre- a detective, barbarian, ninja, horror, sci-fi, magic, pirates, secret agents...all they missed out on was a western. Too much stuff trying to be the new Marvel Comics.
A shame, like I said, a few of the titles were very good.

I forgot that Disney bought Crossgen! And it was all for the benefit of this delightful all ages fantasy pastiche by Dematties and Ploog...

I think they expected it to be the new Harry Potter. Unfortunately, the product they came out with was prose with the original comics mixed into it in a sporadic fashion, which I really don't think serviced the final product very well at all. They probably would have been better off keeping them separate streams... let Dematties adapt the comic into a prose novel and then let Ploog keep plugging away painting the comic. I've rarely seen those weird hybrids work on the fiction end of things, although one of Lynn Johnson's For Better or Worse anniversary books did an interesting job of it.

Their books always looked good, but I never could get into any of the characters or story lines.

Sojourn was good, with excellent art by Greg Land on Arwyn the Archer. Ruse had great art by Steve Epting. A lot of big-name talent was there...George Perez did some stuff for them as well.

This was a huge Guilty Pleasure for me. Started off as a kind-of Devil's Rejects Gonzo Spinoff but turned into a pastiche of pop culture where anything and everything could happen at any given moment in a stream of conciousness sort of way.

They turned it into the new Superbeasto cartoon.

never got into them. The LCS must have been getting kickbacks to sell them. The guy used to push them like crazy when they were "hot"

That's because Crossgen ran a retailer program in which they would advertise the shop's name & info in their books and advertising if the retailer agreed to carry their titles in stock.

What I think is really funny is the fact that it took Perez to sign an Crossgen exclusive with a JLA/Avengers clause for them to FINALLY greenlight JLA/Avengers. So Perez didn't actually end up doing as much work for them as they would have hoped.
