Really enjoyed Byrne's run, he dug up some classic villains like Egg Fu. Probably my favorite use of her was in New Frontier. Darwyn Cooke really did a lot with the character. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
Byrnes' run was a lot of fun. Artistically, Perez's run was fantastic, although I think his stories maybe got mired a bit too much in touchy-feely stuff.
Messner-Loebs and Deadoto's run certainly galvanized the title.
Cooke's New Frontier and Waid and Ross' Kingdom Come both had strong interpretations of WW. Funny how she seems more compelling outside of her normal title usually.

Besides the Roy Thomas/Gene Colan pre-Crisis fix, I never got into Wonder Woman prior to the George Perez run (which I agree with Chris was too touchy-feely). Once Perez left, so did I.
The Deodato run revived my...uh...interestand was pretty legendary. And those Brian Bolland covers didn't hurt either.
Byrne's run was fun but I've become less a fan of his muddied looking artwork by that point.
Phil Jimenez' run I think is underestimated. It treaded on the same ground as the Perez run ('natch) but still brought new stuff to the table. I really enjoyed it.
Didn't care for the Rucka run...and Gail Simone's run has been uninspired....Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

I'm more a Fan of the Golden Age version but I did like when Perez was on the book.
Messener-Loebs/Deodato run was a blast
The Oversised Alex Ross book was Fabulous.Comment

I really liked the Rucka storyline. The battle against the Medusa was great, and when Diana squirted the venom into her eyes, it was pretty bad-a**. I liked the Perez years, because of his use of the gods. Like anyone who works on a book for a fairly long time, there were a few bits that were less than stellar. I think the current run by Gail Simone has potential, but is taking a while to reach it. I really like the stuff about Hippolyta's personal guard and their hatred of Diana. The whole thing about Zeus putting men on the island is messing it up though. Of course, maybe I'm just relieved that novelist woman is gone - she really had no clue about the character.Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

The Absolute Best WW Stories for me,.. that I know of, were not in the Books at all. They Present themselves in the Timmi-verse..., as in JLA , JLU ..., and the WW New Toon..
I just think the Character has never been Protrayed Better.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Being a HUGE George Perez fan I'd have to see his run on the title are the best of the Wonder Woman stories..."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

I think Wonder Woman is tougher to write than Superman. I really like Perez's origin and art during his run, Byrne's run was fun, but nothing really substantial. Hated Messenar-Loebs' run. Bolland's covers were great. I liked Rucka's run OK, but nothing special. Likewise the Jimenez. As a kid, I liked it when they shifted the book to Earth 2 for a while because the TV was set in WWII. Always loved E2 and the 1940s/WW2 setting in general.
But again other than Perez's origin and as others mentioned her portrayal in Kingdome Come and New Frontier and the JLA cartoons, I don't know what I would consider a classic wonder woman run or story.
It's wild how well Bruce Timm and all of his writers, producers and directors got DC's pantheon of characters and depicted them pn screen. I really think they did a great job of distilling the best parts of the characters and using them to great effect.
With that in mind, maybe Warner's should replace Levitz with Timm.Comment
