Cameron on Spidey 4 "Sloppy seconds"

    Ouch!

<<Cameron Not Interested in Spider-Man Reboot
    Source:MTV
    January 16, 2010

On Thursday, Avatar director James Cameron's name popped-up on a potential list of directors for Sony's Spider-Man reboot, coming in 2012. MTV asked Cameron if there was any truth to it tonight.

"No, no," Cameron said. "It's a little bit sloppy seconds, let's face it. I haven't gotten a phone call. I don't expect to — certainly [not] after this interview. But if you're thinking about it, it's sloppy seconds. I'm not interested."

Our guess is that Cameron will move right into the Avatar sequel considering the film has already reached $1.42 billion worldwide and will likely surpass Titanic's $1.84 billion before it exits theaters.>>

Bring the cast back and redeem the Spider-Man franchise with a cool villain like the Rhino, Electro or the Scorpion... just do something right for once!!

Hell, even Hydro-Man could look cool on the silver screen. He could be one hell of a nightmare for Spidey if the story was done right.

No, Hydro Man could never look cool.

I read somewhere's that Back in thre Day Cameron Had the Script for Spider-man 1, when it was different, for like 5 yrs, and did absolutely nothing with it.

Someone like that, would never follow anyone to begin with.

Dude, with the way special effects are these days. That would look amazing!! Having water dripping through pipes, cracks and maneuvering through all kinds of various spaces. It could be really cool. Have some of that melting steel looking affect used in Terminator 2 (but ten times better).

Then have Hydro man creating a big cocoon of water and engulfing Spider-man in it in the middle of the city and trying to drown him!
Oh my god! That would look so amazing. The ideas and things that could be done would be cool.

You've seen the Spider-man 90s cartoon I am sure. Remember when he was blowing up and making the giant water giesers in the park?
If that could be recreated in a "real life" setting with special effects that would look out of this world.

Don't count Hydroman out as not looking cool. Special effects could make him look and be one of the best Spider-Man villians on the screen.
Throw in a possible past love interest with Mary Jane (like the cartoon) and there you'd have the story line right there.
Then in the middle of all this ****, the Blackcat pops up with her issues and drama. Those two would make Spider-Man 4 rule.

          That is my thoughts.

Joe. Explain why, you think Hydroman could not look cool? I mean, a man that can literally turn into water. Imagine the problems he could cause to people and Spider-Man. They'd spend the majority of the movie trying to figure out how they can stop a man that basically turns in to water.

He's a big wet blanket and a Sandman rip off. And no I didn't watch enough of the crap 90's cartoon to remember "how cool" Hydroman was. He's a lame-o villain that can't hold a candle to any of Ditko's creations. The movies need to stay with the classics and not get into newer stuff, you saw how well Venom went.

Yes, Cameron was attached to Spider-Man for quite some time. I'm wondering if all this isn't going to blow up in Sony's faces. Rami has a lot of fans within Hollywood, and they may be leery to retread his territory so soon, even with his blessing.

Cameron was attatched to Spidey for most of the 90's when the property was partly owned by Carolco, backers of the Terminator franchise. When they went under, MGM bought them and claimed Spidey ownership while, IIRC, Marvel struck a separate deal with Sony. It went to court forever and Sony won out by exchanging controlling interest in James McCrory's end of Thunderball/Never Say Never Agin Bond franchise to MGM.

At this point, Cameron was neck-deep in Titanic and planned on doing Spidey with Leo as his follow-up because Titanic looked to be an impending financial disaster. When Titanic began to test screen to huge numbers, Cameron walked away from Spidey, but Sony still had his script which was where the idea of organic webshooters came from. From there, David Koepp was brought on to pretty much ripoff Batman 1989.

Cameron's script is not that good. Sandman is a hired killer for Kingpin(?), Doc Ock was the main heavy, who was going to be played by Arnold. IIRC, this is also where the idea of Uncle Ben being killed by the Sandman came from. Parker was very Eddie Furlong/T2ish teen *****y since Cameron sucks at writing teens.

...and I can't stand organic webshooters.

I remember Wizard bandying John Cussack's name about at the time. He would have worked, when he was younger, but even at that point, he was probably too old.

Cameron is right. And no reputable director is going to touch a high profile product like this when the world was still enamored with the original cast and vision from Raimi. This isn't a franchise that is needing a makeover. It's rebooting because of a fight and no one wants to come into a mess like that and pretend like it was "planned". Sony needs to just swallow hard and bring back the original cast. This reboot suggestion is a horrible idea.
