Spider-Man's funny banter and taunting is suppose to get under his advisories skin and Macguire could not pull it off with his voice - I don't think it's a lack of talent, it's just out of his range to do it. Anytime he tried he sounded foolish and I think that's why they kept the banter to a real minimum.
My favorite parts of the series, The scenes in part 1 where he's learning his new powers, the entire train sequence in part 2, I do give Macquire a lot of credit for those scenes. His face effortlessly switches from extreme joy to extreme sadness, which is truly fitting for Peter Parker - but he can not pull off anger or seem threatening, which has always been a problem for me. One of the many problems of part 3 was his inability to convey the dark anger that was suppose to be taking over him.
