^^^ the problem is, what if Nolan's plans included the Joker? Nolan obviously has a bigger story spanning over multiple movies in the works instead of the formula of the last franchise of just plugging in villains.

If there is a multiple arc in the works, then they should just go forward whole hog whether someone looks like Ledger or not. The worst the studio could do is shy away from the plan that was in the works. If there was not to be a Joker story in the next one, then I agree that other villains need to be explored. One that I think could be really creepy if done right could be the Ventriloquist. It's all good!Comment

If his original plans DID include the Joker in sequels, I'm sure he's had time to alter those plans and go in a new direction that are Joker-less...considering the fact that Ledger made the Joker his own and anyone else would have big shoes to fill and could possibly do damage to the franchise by trying to do soThink OUTSIDE the Box! Did Two-Face die at the end of Dark Knight? It didn't seem clear to me. I know he fell a big distance but so did Batman. Maybe they should bring him back.
Leave the Joker out for now. Though Levitt would be good if they feel they MUST include a Joker.Comment

The Two Face thing was left vague. Not sure if he was dead or not, but you could see his chest moving as he lay there. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

I think that they could get away with using Dr Hugo Strange in a movie, especially the modern version who liked to dress up as Batman from time to time. Maybe let Two-Face out of it until the very end, or even the next movie, so everyone thinks he's dead. The Ventriloquist would be awesome. I'd love to see how they would do the puppet.Hey! No Joker for the 3rd Film, please.
Bring on Depp as the Riddler and Croc or ManBat.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I agree! Nolan should leave the Joker in peace move on! .But Gordon Levitt would make an awesome Riddler? any thoughts?Comment

I've heard this before, but I doubt Nolan would do this. All signs point to the fact that all involved, from Nolan down, really liked and respected Ledger, and were blown away by his performance.
And I doubt any actor would want to step into this role, no matter how much money they flung at him. I'm sure there will be other Batman movies with the Joker later on, but to step into a Nolan Batman movie, you are playing Ledger's Joker, and that is one tough act to follow. An award-winning performance, even. Not likely.

Love Brick, and Cobra Commander was the only good thing about GI Joe.
I can see him doing a good job with Joker, but perhaps there is another iconic bad guy he can occupy... Riddler! Perhaps more in the mode that Paul Dini has been writing him.Comment

My personal pick was Mark Hammil, especially if the next one was set a few years after Dark Knight, but Levitt will do. Whoever it is has some big clown shoes to fill Ledger made the Joker all his own. If I had to rank the actors playing the Joker it'd be Ledger then Hammil tied with Cesar Romero and a distant 65th place would be Nicholson.
Right on the money on all counts, my friend.
