I've met quite a few creators and comic insiders in my Con journeys through 94-96. I was working for an indie comic company and we travelled to a lot of mid-west shows and set up booths. The breakfast rooms were always interesting as the artists and assorted others creators just sat around and BS'd while having coffee and donuts. I had small talk with a lot of them and found them to be generally pleasant. NO real horror stories except for Byrne's huge ego. He's kind of a jerk, but a lot of living legends are.

In Atlanta, I helped rescue a fantasy author from a freakishly strange crowd. I was heading up the elevator to my room and I heard someone yell to hold the elevator, and he sounded panicked. This guy was literally running across the lobby being chased by a hoard of dudes dressed in orc, wizard and various knight constumes. I held the door and got him in there before the mob got to us. IT was RA Salvatore. At the time he was the hottest writer in the biz and always in demand to sign stuff. He told me his room number and asked me to stop by later. He ended up giving me two hard cover editions of his books signed. Very cool.

I remember having a table next to a guy who I later found out years later was Kevin Smith.

The most surreal experience was going to a Chinese restaurant with a group from the show. I was at a table with Tom and Mary Bierbaum, Dave Dorman and a few others I can't recall. However, at the end of the table was peter Cullen. He's the voice of Optimus Prime. everyone at the table was having him order their food in that voice. Mu Gu Gai Pan! Only a geek like me could appreciate the humor I guess.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

that's common alot of stars who haven't been in the spotlight, aren't comfortable talking to fans without alittle liquid courage Michael Biehn (terminator, aliens) was soo drunk at an
fx show he walked into a wall. Even the promoters told him too take it easy.

I love meeting artists at cons. And Celebs!

          1) Adam West. That will always be my number one meet. Without him I wouldn't be into comics. I drew him a picture of him as Batman as a gift. He loved it. He even called me his friend Carl which blew my mind. When Batman calls you his friend its a big day.

          2) Carmine Infantino. I met him 2 years ago in Toronto. He was selling a book which I bought. There was nobody in line for him which surprised me completely. I walked over there and spent a good half hour talking with him and his daughter (I think it was his daughter). He signed the book I bought and wished me well. A very nice guy.

          3) Steve Skroce. He did the Storyboards for the Matrix as well as some Spiderman and Gambit comics. Not sure what he's doing these days. He drew me a picture of Nightwing based on how I draw Nightwing. He looked through my sketchbook and liked what he saw. He offered me lots of advice and even told me I should be at the table with him signing stuff. I was pretty stoked about that.

I did a tour of (disasterous) comic conventions across Canada in the 1991, some cities were busy but othercities had almost no attendance. I spent most of the time chumming with the very bored celebrity guests like William Messner-Loebs and his wife, who were lovely, down to earth folks.

Also had the surreal task of shuttling around John "Baltar" Colicos for a couple of hours, wonderful guy.
