I always liked Jack Davis, Mort Drucker, Don Martin and Sergio Aragones.

As a kid I loved Don Martin but came to appreciate Sergio Aragones more as I got older.

I gotta go with Sergio. Just for the fact he was always sneaking naked women into the margins.

I guess if you held a gun to my head I'd say Harvey Kurtzman because I love his drawing style and he's a true master of the comic form. He was a very hands-on editor and did a lot of the layouts in the old days. Most importantly he created Mad.

I think Don Martin was the funniest Mad artist ever.

I also love Jack Davis, Wally Wood, Sergio Aragones, Al Jaffee, Mort Drucker, Basil Wolverton...

On the other side I never really appreciated Dave Berg. It played like putting a very scripted and dry sit-com in the middle of an improve comedy routine. The only thing that really tied his work into the rest of the book was Aragones' margin drawings.

His actual drawing style was very skilled, but it lacked a lot of the energy most of the other artists brought. I don't hate him, but I never loved him.

              Jack Davis or Don Martin

Dave Berg never seemed "Mad" enough for Mad.

                  Any love for Will Elder?

I have to admit that I lean towards the Harvey Kurtzman years when it comes to Mad. In the seventies, as much as I loved Don Martin, Al Jaffee, Spy Vs Spy et al, I got much more enjoyment from Cracked thanks to John Severin's dynamic movie/tv caricatures and Bill Ward's impossibly built Nanny Dickering.

                    You are correct sir!

It's actually impossible to choose one artist from that scene - they're all amazing!

Yeah - that sums it up pretty neatly.

...oddly enough; I concur. (Except for the last part; I had a friend who was actually built like that.) I'm also surprised at how many of the Mad guys did serious stuff too.

                        Don C.

No one is built like Nanny Dickering unless they are somehow born with Bionic Bullet Shaped Breast Implants that somehow have anti-gravity devices built into them! I demand to see pictures!

I love John Severin and Jack Davis' Western and War stuff.

I was never a real fan of Cracked or Crazy or Sick....those are the mags you tended to buy if you couldn't find a copy of Mad IMO

                              What was Sick?

I liked Crazy for Teen Hulk and the times that they would print funny versions of regular Marvel Comics in What's Up Tiger Lily style. Obnoxio Clown crossing over with The X-men was just bizarre.
